need help!!
Monday, January 15, 2007 10:53 PM
I got a friend , he told me that he can get me a greddy turbo kit. OK... thats cool, but then he asked me about my compression and its 10.1. With that being he told me that i'll have to lower my compression before I can put that kit on. And I have a 03 cavi with 2.2 eco. I bought it just with a full exhaust and cold air intake other then that I don't know what the other guy did. Tell me if this is all true before I get it and put it on and I screw my engine up. THANKS!!

There are plenty of cars on the .org that have built custom turbo kits, and places like www.hahnracecraft.com make great turbo kits for the Ecotec.

Generally speaking, the lower compression you have, the more boost you can run. But it has been proven many times over that a stock Ecotec, with the stock 10:1 c/r, is more than able to handle a decent amount of boost.

Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!

Static CR doesn't mean much. Also, the higher the compression, the higher the Hp number you can get. Low compression with boost is for people running Alot of boost or too lazy to spend time tuning their car right.

Your friend is full of it, not trying to be a downer or anything, but Greddy does not make a kit for the Ecotec Cavalier. Now as far as running a Greddy Turbo that is possible.

Well which one would you prefer running a greddy turbo or the Hahn kit? I mean I don't know much about turbos sooo I can really know the difference if they are any. But I know I do want a turbocharger, I just love the sound of the BLOW OFF VALVE. But I mean I know what the turbo does and everything but I can't go in detial on them to find the difference in the make or anything. So can anybody give me a quick TURBO 101 on everything. THANKS

ok. here's what you want. exhaust runs through one side, spinning a turbine. turbine is on a rod, on the other side of which is another turbine that draws in air. this air is forced into the intake, creating a positive pressure (boost).

thats how a turbo works (as simply as i can explain it.) BUT, there's A LOT more to it than that, and if you don't know what you're doing, you WILL blow your engine.

there is no such thing as a simple turbo setup, or cheap for that matter. get ready to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000+ to get a turbo going PROPERLY on your car, much more if you don't know how to to the work yourself.
