Intercooler mounting

I have a 99 cavalier 2200 is it better to take off the core support and mount it there or mount it below with "L" brackets or something similar. I've seen people do it both ways just curious if one way would b better thanks for any input.

by removing the bumper support you are loosing alot of strength out of the front end. i have seen people"trim" it and then go behind and re enforce the hell out of it. but whichever you feel more comforable doing.

i will tell you now i HIGHLY suggest mounting under it.. why would you remove a structural part that not only has to do with safty as well... i was hit right on the front corner by a drunk driver and if i had taken it out i can tell you it would have been alot worse then it was... bottom line keep it in...

if you want i got pictures and all that of how i did it which worked out pretty good... mounted pretty well flush with the bottom of that bumper

But like Z24BaLler said if you take it out, trim it or cut it , you better weld in a bracing peice... which is just as good... and for thoughs who are going to argue this, think about if you get in a crash and insurance comes out to inspect the car for a claim... you just threw out any chance of seen any thing by taking that out if they see that...

I managed to fit a 8x28x3.5 inch intercooler by cutting the supports for the hood latch that go like this /\ I ran a piece of angle iron from side to side that bolted to the latch and holds the intercooler in place. Currently where the fmic is installed you can't even tell its there and it still gets pleanty of air flow. Let me know if you need any pics.

Ouch! I hope you're planning on just making that a homemade fibreglass body kit.
I accidently forgot to put my bumper support back on before I drove it away for the winter, and I felt the car shaking a bit.

I fit a 3x30x32 intercooler fit just beind with a Z24 bumper with almost no modification to the bumper support whatsoever. I did build custom brackets but I assure you it worked well.
