1996 2.2 Turbo?
Wednesday, February 21, 2007 1:37 AM
For the members that have a 95 to 97 2.2L or those that know what I'am asking. Ok, I've been a member of the Org for almost 4 years now and I have been reading everything that pertains to turboing a 96. My question is, if I'm starting out with the basic turbo setup (manifold, turbo, and intake pipe), and no major mods to the engine. How much PSI can I "safely" run without having to do the top feed conversion? I have read everything that I could find about why I need a top feed but I want to get some power out of what I have now. I do plan on doing the top feed but don't have the $$ to do everything together.

that about sums it up right there. a few people have run 4-6psi with stock injectors and an FMU but thats dangerously close to maxing out the injectors as well as your fuel pump. its not the smartest thing to do. so with that said, just save up and do the topfeed. it will be safer/more reliable that way. last time i checked the classifieds, there was a topfeed conversion for sale for $200.

lol, way to make a sale.
You wouldn't be able to run enough boost to make it worthwhile. However, you could also go the route of extra injectors, you don't have to do top-feed.

You mount a fuel injector bung (or two) in your piping right before the throttle body, then mount injectors in the bungs and control them with and extra injector controller (EIC). Check out sdsefi.com for more info and parts.
