RSM Supercharger Part #s
Sunday, February 25, 2007 10:04 AM
Hi all,

In April my car is comes out of storage. As part of my yearly maintenance I would like to change the charger belt and air filter. Does anyone who has/had the Ecotec kit have the part number for the Gatorback belt that comes with the kit and the part number for the K&N filter that comes with the kit? Also is there a difference in the belts for the auto kit vs the manual kit ( I don't think there is, but I would like to be sure). I'd like to order these parts now because I know I will be bogged down with school work when the time comes to drop it off to my mechanic for all the fluid and filter changes. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

bump - I know its a long shot since very few have this kit and RSM isn't too well liked around these parts (for obvious reasons) but I'll bump it one more time to see if anyone knows -

If it's a K&N filter why are you replacing it? You do know those are made to be cleaned and not replaced right?

Thanks for the info, but yes I know of the cleaning kits. My filter got a little bent up during install and dirtied up pretty badly when the charge pipe was rubbing against the hood liner. I made some minor adjustments and now rubbing on the hood liner isn't an issue so I figured I just start over with a new filter. The new one won't be bent badly and won't get anywhere near as filthy as the one on there now. When the new one gets dirty I'll use the cleaning kit on that.

Good deal. I just find it funny how few people pay attention when they buy them and ask to have them replaced instead of taking the 5-10 minutes to clean them. I now have 3 sitting at work because the owners asked me to replace them because it had been a while since they changed their air filter. LOL. I gave them what they wanted....a crappy new filter.

The kit doesnt come with a gatorback it comes with a crappy dayton thats sized too big

The goodyear gatorback # is in my registry I cant remember it off hand its a 6 rib 33inch belt

The filter I believe is a 3 or 3.5 inch opening

Thanks Rodimus. My kit definitely came with a gatorback belt. Do you think it is the same length as the Dayton belt that came with yours? I know you and Ben swapped a 0.5 inch smaller belt and got 6 psi, and then to a 1 inch smaller belt and got 7psi. If you have the 33 inch I assume that the one that came with the kit must have been 34 inches. Does that sound right? Also how did you manage to fit the 1inch smaller belt on there? I'm considering swapping to the 1 inch smaller belt, if I can, and getting 370cc injectors and getting the GM reflash (because I know the FMU won't be able to appropriately handle 7 psi of boost on a stock fuel system). Of course this won't be this year, this is something I am considering for next year.

yea the lousy dayton that came with the kit was 34, i replaced with a gatorback 33 which worked ALOT better

ive noticed on colder nights up to 8psi then again i can rev to 7000

The Gm reflash isnt the way to go, get HP tuners

If you have questions dont hesistate to email me, im prob the only one here that can give you answers

The belt im running now is actually a carquest belt... It seems to be SLIGHTLY smaller than the gatorback, and its made by gates rubber company (good @!#$)

Lemme go out to the garage and see if i can still read the number.....
ok, with this belt im hittng 7psi all day every day.

Carquest p/n K060331

To install, i loosten up the tensioner, then loosen the forward bottom bolt for the s/c mount, then remove the rear and tilt the supercharger towards the engine, get the belt on and pull it back in place/tighten it down. This also prevents my s/c comming loose and majorly messin things up, since i retighten it every time i change the belt.

Then just push down as far as you can on the tensioner, or its actually REALLY easy if you put the tensioner in the tightest position and tighten it down before you pull the supercharger back into place. I have NO slip with this setup, and before i blew the engine i had a pretty bad oil leak as well, ill have to replace this belt before she goes back together..... But even with the oil it doesnt slip.

I dunno how the mounts are for the auto, you might not be able to tilt the supercharger back to free up the slack.

Sry for the delayed responce, i saw your post but had to wait till the 1st to post again

The major difference between the auto and manual kits, that I can think of, is the supercharger mounting bracket. I would assume since the charger bracket mounts to the transmission, the auto kit would have a different mounting bracket than the manual kit. The rest of the pieces of the kit are hoses and fittings and what not. Those should be relatively easy to make work with a manual. The only place you are going to be able to get a mounting bracket is either custom made or from ZSpec (formally known as RSM). Be fore warned that they will most likely charge an absurd amount of money for it and you may have to do some haggling. Hope that helps.
