Well, I think I just wrecked my third motor today. This doesn't exactly go int he boost forum because it's N/A right now, but I figured I'd get the best response here. I was driving normally today, and in second gear brough it to about 5K and went to shift, and all of the sudden I heard this terrible knocking sound. Sounded just like when I blew the ring land on my last motor, so I drove it back home, pulled all the plugs, and they look perfect. I drove it a bit more, and the knocking is getting EXTREMELY loud. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the motor. I also crawled underneath the car, and it is EXTREMELY loud near the oil pan. Sounds like something is clanking around inside. It runs fine though, doesn't miss or anything. What do you think it is? A bent rod, bad bearing? If it is a bent rod or bearing, can I change that by just pulling the oil pan off? In other words can I do it without yanking the motor out? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry to hear man.. Umm Im gonna say if its a bad bearing, I wanna say yes you can change it by taking the pan\oilpump and or balance shaft assembly off.. But if its a rod I doubt you can change that from the bottom of the engine.. I only say that because youll have to access the bottom of the rod where it connects way up in the piston.. But im not sure though,, just goin my memory of when I put my engine together..
I hope its not bad man, it does sound that way though.

Well, I had no way to get back home from school, so I tried driving it back to my apartment. That turned out to be a BAD idea. It went boom on the highway, smoke everywhere, and oil leaking from some unknown place. Had to get towed off the highway during rushhour...not cool. Now I have two blown motors, with one still 3 weeks out at the machine shop. So it looks like I will be without a car for at least a month. ^@%^#$@

That's the funny thing. I regularly check my oil, and I just checked it last week, and it was full. Although this motor does have 120K on it, so that could be part of it..I dunno..

Rod bearing is a common failure on the 2.4 engine. I think its mostly #3 or 4.

You know this how?? You have a Ecotec. I have never had a 2.4 eat oil " like idk what"

I've been there before on my original motor, spun rod bearing #4
Car had 118,360 miles on it at the time.
Sucks, I know.
H.O.N.D.A = Hold On Not Done Accelerating
I have a feeling that I have a lil more than a spun bearing. I think I may have put a hole in the block somehow, because there was an excessive amount of oil leaking from around the alternator area, that is also where the noise was coming from. I'll find out tomorrow. I tried to crank it, and it sounds like it would if you had all the spark plugs out...Just sounds like there is no compression. I have a feeling this block is not salvageable. Argh...

damn your hard on motors man, best of luck finding a new motor.
I'm thinking you might have skipped a tooth on the timing chain, or broken it completely.

^ it depends alot on the driver and how it's maintain. My 2.4 doesn't even take 1 drop of oil.
