ok so i am planning to piece together a complete turbo system. i have been reasearcing a lot and plan to do a lot more. i also have a few friends who have installed before that are willing to help. i have a few questions
to start i am hoping to run about 8 psi maybe a little more but dont want to have too do work on internals. so the goal for horsepower is low 200 realistically less than 210 and thats good enough for me. also i have a 2001 cav with the 2200 ohv
1st thing i wanted to know is which parts do you all have experience with that are not name brands such as greddy and turbonetics. i know ebay is a risky plase if you dont know quite a bit about what you want to buy and i dont want to spend my money on poor quality products. like if i buy a bov or wastegate thats on there will that be ok. or even the turbo. the only thing i found much on from there was the manifold.
another thing is the wastegate. how do i know what sring to get in it. they have different psi ratings.
lastly is the fuel system. i want to make sure i dont get too cheap on this. other than injectors wat do i need. fpr? fuel pump? and a good size reccomendation on the injectors?
thanks in advance and hopefully im not sounding too newbish

$%@*)!$& nOOB!!!!!1 lol
Good to hear someone say they won't cheap out on fuel. I'd suggest some decent size injectors that came stock on something else (nice and cheap on good ol' ebay), just search for "saturated injectors", look for 300+cc. To tune-in the injectors, go with HPT or megasquirt, and a wideband O2.
As for the turbo, you want a T3 (or equivalent 15/16g). Ebay has people who rebuild stock turbos from other cars and resell them cheap, check out the 60-trim SVO turbos (what I use) and you'll get the downpipe started with the stock Mustang/XR4ti O2 housing.
As long as you get a turbo with an internal wastegate, you won't have to worry about spring pressures, but you do have to make sure the wastegate is set to open before your 8psi mark.

yea i figured that out after i posted. haha.
With megasquirt you do not have to worry about an FPR or new pump as long as you're not shooting for 300+hp
I put my MS together with basically zero previous experience, not difficult, just tedious.
DO NOT BUY THE TURBO FROM SSAUTOCHROME!!!! just trust me on this one. If you ever see a brand new turbo for less than $300 it will fall apart...guarenteed.
For your BOV, just buy one listed as stock from a 1g DSM. They are great up to about 15psi, and can be bought on ebay for ~$20.

ok sounds good. thanks again
do not buy that turbo. you are better off buying a used one that you have never seen and have no info about, and installing it.
Aside from that, MegaSquirt is one of the best EMS units you can buy. Launch control, pulsating water meth control, nitrous control.. it's got it all. Price is really good too.
And I can't tell from those pictures of the piping... if those are not T-bolt style, then you might as well buy some now and save you from replacing them when they all fail.

i actually planned on getting t bolts i have read that they are a lot better. not sure how but a lot of people swear by them so i am not going to risk it.
yah the regular screw type will just loosen up and fall off all the time, the t-bolt use an actual bolt and a nut.
Those are the only 2 options, one fails 90% of the time, the other 10% or less.

i have a 1g blowoff for sale......25 bucks
and i have Emanage for sale.....u need to get sum kind of software to get the cable for the computer to work....but has ignition and injectors harnesses with it....along with CD with program for computer....300 for that....emanage im told is very close to megasquirt
you scratch my ride IMA EAT YO CHILDREN
and emanage is made by greddy so u kno its quality

e-manage is junk next to a MS, not even comparable, especially for the price.
I use screw-type clamps on my DSM ~15psi and have never had a problem. As long as you have a lip or bead at the end of the pipe you are okay. I DO however run t-bolts on the pipes that don't have a bead.

Yah I should have mentioned that, if you have a nice bead for the clamps to hold onto, the screw type will work well.
I wouldn't recommend the emanage at all, for 500 you can get HPTuners.com tuner. sometimes for 400-425 in the classifieds.

well the pipes dont have a lip so i will definitely run t-bolts. im thinking im going to go with megasquirt as well. price is right. i read somewhere that emanage isnt all that great. thanks for all the help. one more thing. the rebuilt turbos seem hard to find on ebay right now. juts that ssautochrome. any sites that sell rebuilt ones.
search for the ebay seller down2turbo. thats who i got my turbo from when i boosted my ohv. several people on the org recommended him as a seller. my turbo and manifold are actually for sale on ebay now too
yea dont buy that peice of crap turbo. and 1g dsm bov's are good for more than 15 psi. i had 10 of them that i was selling and tested them all every one of them was good from 18-22 psi. and they can be tweaked to go even higher. so they will be just fine for anything you would want to run.
down2turbo is nolonger a member of ebay....if u look up his name it says not registered

thats interesting. down2turbo and andresturbo are both gone. i guess i should stop telling people to look him up then. i bought my turbo back in may of last year and just assumed that he would still be around. oh well. sorry about that
well i found a seller named down2turbo he had no listings. im still lookig for a good turbo for a good price
I bought a turbo from D2T on ebay, I was very impressed with it. Couple issues I had, I ordered a 0.63 and recieved a 0.48, so we emailed back and forth a bit, and it was replaced almost no issues... so 400 USD, turned into an extra 3 weeks and 25 shipping, so 425... then when I got the turbo the a/r casting was ground off (yes freshly ground) but I had to install something at this point, so I installed it.
I was having turbo stalling issues, and over boosting/boost creep, so 2 weeks ago I pulled the turbine housing out of the car, measured it up and it was infact still a 0.48.. even after shipping back. So I found a different 0.63 housing, which was another 100 bucks, plus just over 100 to have my downpipe redone, and about 8 hours of my time. so thats another 200 +my time.
that puts me at a total of 625, plus removing the turbo twice. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but if I would have had ANOTHER 3-4 weeks I would have shipped it back AGAIN, to get the right turbine housing. I would likely just spend the money and get something right the first time... but the quality of the parts was 100%.
another small issue, is that the auction said 0.50 a/r 50trim to4b compressor, and I got a 0.60 a/r 50trim to4b compressor... so I guess I didn't get one measurement that I paid for, lol.

the other thing that scares me is tuning. never done it at all and dont know anyone who has.
local dynos can usualy (for a fee) dyno tune ur computer...i have a local dyno that uses a Tec2 tuner and sum other tuner...dragon fly or fireball or sum crazy name...but the guy said its about the same idea as Hptuners....he knew what hptuners was and said he could basically do all the same stuff with his tuners....
