Turbo eco goes boom! :(

Well, haven't been on in awhile... anyways yup, something happened. Motor was knocking really bad ...click, click, punch, boom oil all over the place. Well, car still starts. Either, A. I blew it up, B. Rod punch a hole through block C. Lands on pistons done rings screwed up or D. Lack of oil cause something to go bad, don't know what Lol. I'll find out tomorrow. Either way, I picked up another eco motor, so if the stock motor is finished, we will drop the new motor in and I'll be parting out what's good on the bad motor. Other scenario, I get lucky and the used motor I bought, I will be selling or returning.

So, the question is: What size rods and pistons do y'all recommend? Do I get forged stock rods, pistons or a new set of lower compression forged rods, forged pistons and simultaneously do the head work, block work etc..? The other questions is, my transmission isn't the greatest, so do I repair it or swap to a 5 speed? I will probably be getting rid of the car at the end of the year, so if you have any suggestions on another car, I want to hear that, too. I'm not going anywhere, so tell me how you feel. I'm listening or shall I say reading.

For pistons and rods the weisco/eagle combo is one of the most popular. If it was me I would swap in a 5 spd too. But why go through all the trouble just to sell it in a year? Just drop in another stock eco drive it for a year and be done. Thats a lot of work just to turn around and sell it. Either way good luck.

Yup. I blew it up. Time to drop the new motor in.

Yeah man, I wouldn't bother with a tranny unless it is a must. It's not like it will sell for anything more. However the eagle rods and some 9:1 pistons would be nice in whatever motor you put in.

If you are selling the car in a year or so, converting to a 5 speed will lower the actual car value since autos are worth more than 5 speeds.

automatics hold boost and don't spool in between shifts, that's why I would stay with and automatic. No miss shifts. I'm getting into road racing, so that's why I will probably get a five speed. You could make some more power with the manual, but same for the automatic if you get a torque converter. It goes both ways for boost, but I'll stick with an automatic. I will have to cryotreat the internals and change out the pulleys and all that, but oh well.

what he said is a fact, auto cars book value is greater then autos, whether you are 20 years old or 70 it doesnt matter.... autos can be fast too by the way

so... did you bother to upgrade your injectors or tune the car when you turbocharged it?

that might explain why you blew it up.. your registry doesn't mention anything about fuel mods or tuning

that poor ecotec..

I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'

I haven't updated my registry in awhile and don't really plan on it. Eventually, I'll get to it.

My injectors are 320cc injectors. I have HP Tuners. I tuned it with HP tuners 6 months ago.

They are pulling the motor today. From my experience, I can say probably lack of oil. I had oil leaks quite frequently. My spark plugs never really helped eiter. They were changed when we did the last tune, because my fuel curve was off. I have two fuel pumps. The stock fuel pump and an msd inline fuel pump.

I'm confused as everyone else, so we shall see what turns up.
