Greetings all,
I know I havent posted in ages. Its been crazy living and working in the desert.
Well I need to make a special post about that with pix, but now I need urgent help.
I just finished installing a turbo on a 99 2.4, i started yesterday for the first time. When I rev it, pressure build in the pipe, then when the TB closes, the BOV doesnt go off, instead, extra pressure back fires through the turbo.
I pulled the BOV and it is not stuck.
The way I connected the vacuum is comprossor, boost controller, wastegate, and then I T-ed between the comprossor and the controller and hooked it up to the upper nipple of the BOV
I have Type S Style BOV
Whats up Major, Trey has been trying to get in touch with ya.. I think just to say whats up..

Hey David,
Good 2 hear from u. I will get back to u guys soon
I should also mention about the BOV, the vacuum lin ecoming from comprossor has very weak positive pressure. And I am sure there are no leaks.
It doesn't sound like the way you have it set up that the bov can see vacuum. Have you tried switching your vacuum source and maybe teeing off something like a map sensor or fpr?? The bov will only open if it sees vacuum so the diapham gets pulled off its seat.
Major = wow long time no see man. I still miss that car of yours!
Is that BOV adjustable, or do you shim it? Either way it sounds like the spring tension is too tight to let off at the lower PSI you want... try lessening the tension on the spring and see how it reacts. I know mine at 1 psi has surge but is fine everywhere else.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
Ouch you want to get rid of that surge bad. Agreed your spring tension could be too high and at the same time check your vacuum source. I've always T'd off the FPR in the past.

it because the bov isnt seeing vaccume
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
wait you have the bov tied into the compressor housing?
I always thought compressor goes to wastegate and that was it...
I have everything else ran off the vac line of my Intake Manifold (bov, fpr, boost gauge)

That's how it should be...

Ok Heres The Secret with the type S. I had it and loved it...........
The TOP Port goes to a Vac. Source such as FPR..
The BOTTOM Port is not needed... But if you want a tighter sound and less chance of leaking under high boost. Run it to you Compressor housing along with you Waste-gate....
The Type S Is a very good BOV and it got a bad rap a while ago cause people didn't know how to hook them up right and they would Leak after anything higher than 14psi (Approx)
Set it up this way and check you spring rate to make sure your not to tight and your all set...
I guess that's what I am doing wrong, not connecting to vacuum source.
Man I 4got all my $hit.
ANyways, i am at site now, as soon as I go to the city where my car is, I will check it out.
Thanx so much guys, and its good 2 c that most u are still here
