Hello Everyone!!
We have decided to put on a big turbo on the Sunfire this year (Option 2 for those of you familiar with our previous post). We chose to use a Garret GT40R turbo.
Compressor Side
Turbine Side
Our exhaust manifold is actually the same header that we used on our race Neon back in the early 2000's. The centers of the runners are the same on the Ecotecs as they are on the 420A DSM motors, so all we did was cut off the 420A flange and tacked on the Ecotec flange and it fits great!.
Here it is in the car with the turbo mounted to it. (It is all a very close fit, tried my best for clear photos)
These are a few shots of the mounted turbo underneath the car.
The Compressor Intake was also a close fit, but I have a few pics of its engineering. We are planning on putting an air box that will be fed through a small, unobtrusive scoop in the hood. I am still working on fitting in the air box so for now, lets just pretend its there
.
That's all for now, but I should have some more Sunday night. We will be mounting the intercooler and routing the Intercooler pipes from the turbo to the intercooler.
If there are any questions or requests for certain pictures, please do not hesitate to ask!

That is nutz!!! Good luck with the progress!!!
I ordered a HRC Stage II for my 05 Cav, but still waiting for my shipping update.
Is it true you build them as they are ordered ? That is what they said when I placed the order 4 weeks ago.

Yea I ordered mine 4 weeks ago also.
Adam does this mean that maybe new products will be available for us now? Or is your car going to be a "one off?"
Niice, on my 2.4 I put my intake piping between the master cylinder and the exhaust cam housing.. Not sure if you have that room on your eco though.

Whats with a brackets holding the turbine a couple inches off the manifold? In the turbo a 4088 or 4094, also what turbine did you go with???
Looks good, i can't wait to see what she will do on the track.

looks good, only thing that would worry me is the shifter cables

AWSOME!!!
2004 Turbo cavalier 11PSI and blown!
i can't wait to see it in person
Damn I'm not gonna lie that looks like it'll be a whole lotta fun.
I'm going to have to take some tips from your guys' driving skill. I'm stuck at 11.4.
-Trailblazer SS - not so custom 6.0L - custom intake - custom tune
- (1) 2.4L on an engine stand (1) blown trans (2) good quad trans (1) eco trans = party

curious to see that part when its done? 4"?
also, call me stupid but what wastegate are you using? mani looks like an internal??
as far as ems, still via portfueler? or using hpt as well? injector sizes?
thats all i can think of about now

looks pretty scary. the intake definitly looks like its gonna get the job done.
John:
Yes, the Air intake is a 4 inch.
Firstly, that bracket that is holding the turbo is just a mock of the collector for the manifold to the turbo. Because the collector is a VERY complicated piece to fabricate, we made that bracket in the mean time so I could continue to make IC piping. The header and collector are of a modular design and the collector is attached to the header by a series of small bolts around the perimeter. It's an exotic design my dad wanted to try on the Neon back in the day, and the fact that they are modular has proved very useful in adapting this header to the Ecotec.
We will be using an external wastegate that will come out of the collector. If you were looking at the turbo from above the car, the wastegate will probably be coming off the left side of the car.
We are going to be putting a DFI on the Sunfire, it will be controlling the fuel system, no longer PortFueler. Injector sizes are yet to be determined, but when we figure it out, we will let you know.
Boosted2point4:
Yes, the shift cables are in a tight situation. They are routed fine right now and they have a heat shield built on them already. Because we would like to be safe and not risk the cables, we will likely make somewhat of a heat shield to help keep them cool from the turbine and also to keep them routed nicely.
Skilz10179:
The turbine is the standard turbine that comes with the GT40R and that's a .85AR.
For Everyone regarding the new system:
After we are done testing this system, if there is enough demand, we will offer it to the public.

interesting so their not run on the same side like the standard stage II kits. any updated pics of the engine bay?
what clutch are u using to handle that kind of power?
http://www.myspace.com/15102113
yes please let us know what clutch you're using! I'm trying to figure out a clutch myself. Making real power clutches die.

Yes, they are run on opposite sides now because the bigger intercool would not have allowed us to fit both a 2.5 inch pipe and 3 inch pipe around the bumper on the same side. There is nothing new in the engine bay....yet. So far, pretty much all the work we have done has been underneath
. We are working on developing a multi disc clutch to hold the power we will be putting down.

what kind power are you gonna be looking to put down and what times and traps are you shooting for in the 1/4 with this GT40R monster.
also you better make this to fit the auto tranny if there is enough demand for it lol
