I have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT with the LD9(2.4L TC) motor & auto tranny (4T40E).
I've been told that the GMPP Supercharger is the best way to go, for performance without tearing into the engine.
I've heard numbers like 200 hp at the crank (with the charger alone), or even up to 215 whp with other add ons.
Since I don't ever plan on going above 250 hp at the crank, this sound like a good possible option.
So I would love to hear about your experiences with the GM Supercharger for the 2.4L TC, especially in the J-bodies.
No one wants to help answer my questions -huh?
Like is the GMPP Supercharger a good deal?
Is it compatible with the 4T40E auto tranny.
and how well does it work with other aftermarket upgrades - bolt ons as well as Internal engine work(i.e. cams, port/polish head, pistons, etc).?
I didn't post before because I never had one but I will say that the people I've known to have them (manual and automatic) liked it.
Yes, it will work no matter what transmission you have.
As far as engine work, it's all up to your budget and goal for your car power wise. The M45 supercharger is on the smaller side, so there are it's limitations as far as flowing air but like I said, it depends on what you're tryiing to achieve out of it.
If you're looking for some more pep in your step, from what I've heard, it's a good upgrade.
IMO its a great upgrade for the 2.4 if your looking for 200hp but not much over that. You can use it with the 4 speed just fine. Is a very hastle free way to make good power.
Well goal wise -
My Original goals are in the range of 200 hp at the crank - my understanding is the GM Supercharger does this alone. With performance wise - 1/4s in the low 15 to high 14 sec range. While the this still isn't enough to take on the likes of the Cobalt SS Supercharged or the turbocharged Neon SRT-4, It's still enough to surprise ricers driving pre '05 Civic Si, or Spec V Sentras,
The eventual goal is likely closer to 250-260 hp at the crank, (about 210-215 hp at the wheels). Although I expect this will require a mild engine and tranny build up. At the completion of this stage - I fully expect the Sunfire to be able to pick of even stock Supercharged Cobalts, maybe even run with stock 350Z, & Eclipse GTs,
I have no desire to make my Sunfire - Viper, F-body, or 'Stang slayer. If I wanted a car to do that - I would find an late Gen 4 F-body, and add mods to it.
the whole theme for my car is "this is the little brother of the Trans Am, not the Trans Am itself"
Also another goal - is to have look as "factory-built" as possible. I've heard the GM Supercharger looks like it could have been "factory installed" - is this true?
Also wondering if my eventual goals are unrealistic, with the GM supercharger?
Sounds like the gmsc is a perfect fit for what you want.

x2 You can reach your power goals, I think with the GM Charger.
Definately open up your exhaust some, that'll help you tons.
A lot of people spray methanol to cool down the intake air charge, maybe you could spray some nitrous and hit your 260 crank easily.
people have ran mid 14's wiht just the charger alone. but along with other mods (bigger TB, header, exhaust, some head work) people have gotten faster
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Sounds like the GMPP Supercharger may certainly be the way to go. From the performance aspect as well as price.
But - Not going to go with Nitrous. Can't use it contantly.
However the alcohol injection idea certainly sounds possible.
What would also be a good reliable build up plan for the engine & tranny to handle the GM Supercharger?
You should be perfectly fine with ur engine and tranny with just the S/C installed . From what i hear anyways .
You could probly put u a 2.6 or 2.5 pulley with meth inj, and get a lil more bang for ur buck ., while still looking stock
I am getting my S/c in this week and hope to have it installed friday and saturday night , so i will snap alot of pics for ya
,
other than that ^^^^ im sure u wil lbe 100% happy with the s/c setup and performace ...i know 2 ppl wit hthem and they LOVE The hell out of them ! ,
Look forward to see the pics.
Here's the order i'm considering get the performance upgrades.
Already have a short ram intake.
1.) 56 mm TB
2.) Cat back exhaust
3.) GMPP Supercharger (with VCM reflash & B&M Auto trans Shift kit)
4.) Save up for a performance re-build of stock motor or buy a custom performance built LD9 motor from JBP.
You'll be happy. I read this last week, and just slapped my charger on Sat. It's bliss!!!My mom has a 04 GTP, and my cavy with S/C, Mounts, and catback feels just as fast.

USACi =>146.9db
14.88 @ 90.73MPH =>GM Charger, Motor Mounts, Catback exhaust
2nus4u - So u the S/C fills that big of a diff??
i M PUTTING mine on fri/sat , ALTHO i have riden in my firends S/C cavi. (WHICH IS A BEAST) , but u really cant fill the true filling of power not drinving it
just wondering if it felt that big of a diff
im kinda excited to get it on and going now

From my personal experience I got very little gain from the 56mm tb on my car. I did alot of other small things before the supercharger and I wish I would have just put on the supercharger first. As for the exhaust I would do it after the supercharger is put on. It is not a must have. I put down 214whp on a completly stock exhaust. I am not sayting you should not put one on but I would do the supercharger first.

Yo uput down 214whp with stock exhaust?????
What all u got done???? Cuase i know my friend has 2.4 s/c and full exhaust .. and i dont think they got even closre to those #'s
The only mods I had were.
Cold air intake (There is a pic of it in my registry)
56mm TB
Supercharger with stock size 2.8 pulley
PCM tuned by Shifted using HP Tuners
I am sure that the only reason I dynoed 214whp is because of the work Ron Beyer (shifted) did to the pcm. From my best estimate I probably got 10-15 whp more because of the changes to the GM reflash alone. I do not have before and after so I can not say for sure though. It was some of the best money I have spent bang for buck wise.

Hey guys, completely new to these forums. Great place for information.
I've searched everywhere I can think of for a supercharger (non-vortech) that will work with a 2002 non-ecotec 2.2l engine. I really like the simplicity of the GM model, but I have only come across ones made for the 2.4l or 2.2 ecotec engines. Would the 2.2 ecotec sc work on my non-ecotec? Thanks in advance!
So far, the prices that I've seen for the GM S/C for the LD9 (2.4L TC)
GM Parts Direct - $1,404.00
GM Performance Parts - $ 1,550.00
Pace Performance - $ 2,195.00
Also - I heard rumored that this Supercharger kit maybe in limited supplies, possible being discountinued. But I'm wondering if they were saying this because Parts Direct is discounted in price.
I've noticed that on each of these sites the LD9 motor is discounted, as are the many of the parts for 96-2002 J-bodies.
I also remember a few years back - I was talking to a Local GM Dealership - the salesman told me that GMPP only keeps products in stock for about 10 years. So this mean that the GMPP Supercharger for the LD9 as well as the LD9 motor should still be in stock until 2010-2012 timefame, Correct?
I doubt it will be around for more than a few years. $1,404.00 is a steal compared to the almost 2 grand I spent on mine.

Well - my main concern it that it will be around for at least - until mid - 2008. That way give me time to get one.
After all, even with the price around $1,400 you still need to figure on adding shipping - so that would be about $1700-1800.
And I'm going to have to save up for that kind of money - especially since I am also be planning to have the ECM reflashed, at the same time as it's installed.
So I'm still figuring about 2,500 to 3,000 bucks for S/C(with shipping) plus installation, & ECM reflash.
I don't know about most of you - but it takes me a several months to save up that kind of money.
Well that's good to know.
Save up $1600 and get it from GMPP.
Didn't realize that it was that shipping was that cheap.
