Hey guys, I recently got a HKS SSQV BOV on my 2002 2.2 eco cav with a Hahn Stage 2. Now after installing the HKS, when i drive i sometimes here like a fluf fluf flufsound when i let off the gas.. now i have never heard it when i am really pushing it, i only seem to here it lets say if im cruising, in 4th or 5th, and i am at the point where there is slight boost happening and i let off the gas i hear a little flluf fluf fluf sound with very little whistle of the BOV. Any ideas what u guys think it is? should i worry? is it compressor surge? i dont want my turbo to fail. do i have to adjust the spring or something in the BOV? any help would be appreciated. thanks
How could that be surge? it is the oposite. Boost is decreasing and that is release of pressure, not an increase.

well you know how it makes a high pitched whistle when u let off to switch gears? if im just cruising lets say it makes like a fluf fluf fluf sounds before a very light whistle.. is the spring to tight? do i have to adjust the BOV?
actually i just took a look at my HKS BOV, i cant even find where you would adjust the settings on it....
You can't adjust the spring on the HKS SSQV, there isn't a screw to do that. What's happening is while you're crusing, you're at very light load and when you let off, there isn't enough of a pressure difference to open the valve as quick as it would if you were at full throttle and let off. It is very light compressor surge that you hear before the small valve opens, but you're turbo can take that little bit of surge and it won't harm it. You don't have to worry about your turbo failing on you.

thanks guys, really appreciate it. the last thing i want to do is wreck a 4-5 thousand dollar investment. Also, this little black air filter that came with the BOV kit, how important is it to have it in the vac line between the BOV and Vacuum source, in this case my intake manifold? thanks again
well i read that other thread, and this is possibly my problem?.. I have my boost gauge T'eed into the same vacuum line as the BOV. so it looks like this: Intake manifold-vacuum line-Tee to boost gauge and other end of Tee to the BOV. I zipped tied all the ends of the hoses if that makes any difference. thanks again. And ocne more, mine is an Authentic HKS SSQV BOV and does not have the adjustment on the back.
I have the same KHS SSQV BOV....i noticed it to and t'eed off the vacuum line in different locations but to no avail, it did not change....what size are your charge pipes...i was thinking that the 2.5in charge pipes that i have dont create enough pressure at a low speed/rpm to give you a solid psshhh...im not to worried about it...now if it happened while i was in it at a higher rpm and it did that, then i would be worried.....my brother has 2.25 on his civic and he gets a solid pssh sound all speeds...so im thinking it a pressure difference in the pipes... but im not positive..
i have the 2.25 pipes that came with the hahn kit.. i might try to run the vac line straight to the intake mani. just to see, right now its t'd with the boost gauge
I would not worry about compressor surge too much. GN's and sy/tys neither one ever had BOV's. Everytime I let off the gas after a run it surges back through the turbo. This is on 16-19psi. I have over 100k miles on my stock turbo which was perfectly fine when I pulled it to upgrade. I have had surge from my engine so loud it would put many BOVS to shame. It is not good for the turbo and I try to always easy off the throttle, but sometimes you got to hit the brakes a little quicker than expected.

if you want to get rid of it, get a turboXS BOV(rfl, type-s), HKS is tight, and it is working the way it was designed.

so the HKS is good and i should keep it then?
The HKS SSQV is one of the best BOV's you can get. Yes you should keep it.
ge_forcez22, I don't know what you mean by tight, but it's actually not tight at all. I just bought a brand new HKS SSQV (the redesigned model) and I can push the valve open with my finger easier that I can my Greddy Type S when it's loosened all the way.
