2.4 Turbo
Monday, April 30, 2007 3:37 PM
So I know there is a @!#$ load of the info bout the turbos and kits thru out the site but I'm curious as to where the hell all the sites that used to carry the turbo parts or even kits went I know I've been out of the J loop for a while but I'm looking to make a full return but I cannot find any of the old sites I used to have in my favorites I keep getting the lovely 404 error message.

Im looking to turbo my 2.4 i just picked up a couple months ago its in the process of being outfitted for me to drive it with the hand controls being as I am paralyzed so what Im saying is I dont have the money to buy a used kit right now but still very much want to turbo my car is there anywhere I can go to just outright buy a turbo kit for the 2.4 platform or will I have to have a machine shop make me a mani and then piece the rest of it together

Thanks for any kind of help you can offer me

Josh

Ok, I'll ask the question, because I'm sure other people are wondering it - what's so bad about the kit on maximumboost.net? I think I see the "problem" myself...if people have blown their engines up using this kit, it's probably because the stage 1 and 2 kits don't include any kind of fuel upgrades or tuning and people have just slapped it on and boosted away...then ran lean and *boom* The only other things I can think of/see that might be a problem - nowhere does it mention a downpipe, and I believe I've heard some not-so-great things about XS turbos. BUT there is a 2 year warranty on the turbo, 1 year on the manifold, and 2 years on the intercooler. Granted, to make any kind of warranty claim you're going to have to go through some hassle, but it is there.

A stage 2 kit (the intercooled one) + your own fueling upgrades, or a stage 3 kit that includes fueling upgrades (probably would still want an upgraded fuel pump?), plus a good way to tune (HPT or such) and I don't see any reason why this kit wouldn't work just fine. Too many products get a bad name because of people not doing the research into what they're getting into.

If nothing else, maximumboost.net lists a ready made turbo manifold for the 2.4, something I haven't seen anywhere else. And while I suppose it's possible that could have @!#$ty leaky welds or some other sort of problem...it's a log style turbo manifold. Any half ass company (which it sounds like that's what people think Maximum Boost is) should be able to produce one that will at least do the job.

ive also wondered about this. i asked the question about it before and was told that the guy buys his stuff off ebay then resells them. but no hard evidence, to me anyway or anyone with experience from buying from maximum boost, to put that site down and that no one should buy from him.

srry about the other post, to add to Josh Willmont. it comes to my understanding that 5 different people have to order the kit for them to start building their kits. i hope that one person dosnt have to buy 5 of them just to use one.

J tuners is a no go. I ordered from them in September and my money was refunded in November. Never was able to actually speak to anyone at the company. Safe to say there out of business. Wasnt able to find any other kit for the LD9, so I went the supercharger road. Cheers and good luck in your setup.

ok really, does anyone ever bought anything from maximumboost.net/ because all i have hered are clames that it is bad. does anyone bought one of their kits resently. i would like to know from people who have had experience with the compony to judge them. i would like to know for a fact and not just what people say.

also ryan did u get my pm?

i dont know why everyone is saying dont buy from them. i personally havnt ordered from them so couldnt say for sure. if its because peoples cars are blowing up then its because those people are idiots haha. they sell very nice parts. (ive installed a couple of there turbo kits) a teamate of mine uses one of there gt35's and its been used without a problem to run low 11's on his dsm. so the only thing i could think of is maybe the service??? ill ask around and see if no one on here can say. that must be it though, or its just rumors.

^^it's becuase numerous people have had partial kits arrive, and everything is universal EBAY parts.

505xplicitZ24 :

AND I """ REGRET IT ::::::BIG;;;;;; TIME.... one advice. stay away from that guy and website....
out of all the parts he sends.. only the """"PRICE :::::: is REAL the other stuff is fake and nothing fits....
you can probably come up with a better set up your self. just look around. and be patient.

Fst Cavy:

Interesting, I think not, it will get locked. This guy has suffered all of the flaming needed, I doubt he even comes onto this site anymore. It is plain and simple...the guy doesnt offer a "kit" for j-bodies. He goes to the trusty internet site named.....ebay.com, suprisingly he pulls this off, but he does. He buys a knock off brand intercooler off ebay, buys a universal charge pipe kit, buy a piece of trash turbo that is known to take a poop in some cases minutes after operation. Trust me on this first hand, I had one of these turbo's once, first drive...took a turd. He didnt do ANY research or development, hes never put his "kit" persay onto a car himself. I really doubt he has the knowledge or the mechanical ability to do it, I really doubt it. He buys all of these universal parts for very cheap, tosses them together, and @!#$s out a kit. Really sad. His "Stage 1" kit, has absolutly no fuel mods, nothing, at all. Is this guy crazy? Does he honestly think you can take a N/A motor, throw 5 lbs off boost into and expect it to feed enough fuel to compensate? Oh, and his "Stage 4" kit, to run 15 lbs of boost, he offers 320cc injectors..WAY too small, and a SAFC, a tuning device known to not produce a sufficient tune on j-bodies. So, if this isnt enough, find his ebay account, and look at the things he purchases, the exact same crap tha tis in his kits, and you will laugh. And it isnt ONLY on these kits, this guy fills his store with ebay universal crap, o well..If he wants to make an "honest" living by SCREWING people over, have fun Mr. Maximum Boost, but liek I said, I am sure this will get locked.

sinrocker:

lol doesn't anyone want my input on maximumboost aka(formaly known as) cavalierextreme.com
to bad ur getting it anyway. the guy sells stuff he peices together on ebay. he screwed me on an intercooler set up he swore up and down that fit the rsm supercharger for the 2200. i received a bunch of generic parts that couldn't be made to fit anything. then frank owner of maximum boost then cavalier extreme told me he assumed it would fit so he told me it would work for sure.
we found him on ebay. and i was looking through his feed back and ever single part that was in the kit he just bought of ebay. never test fitted anything. as far as i know he still hasn't but i think grilled here on the org got one of his crap piles to work..... so if anyone knows the misery that is maximum boost it would be that guy even tho i think he is still sponsered by them.....
but all in all take everyone elses advice
i recommend hahn i never hear bad things about them. jbodyperformance too as to they were trying to help me with the mess frank created.

I just wanted to let everyone know how horrible this company is and what a pathetic business transacation has occured.

I bought the Turbo kit from them and paid for back on Sept 27-05. It was the stage 2 turbo kit for my 04 cavalier.

He said there was 3 packages and only provided 2 tracking numbers. I have recieved both packages with the two tracking numbers he has provided and I still need that 3rd box that Frank says he shipped but won't give me a tracking # for it.

I am missing my intercooler, chargepipes and external wastegate.

I couldn't even use this kit as a stage 1 even if I wanted to. I have tried contacting him many times, he doesn't answer the phone when I call and he never replies to my e-mail anymore either. He says he shipped it but won't provide a tracking number so that tells me he is full of sh*t

I am really upset at this........All that money I spent for what, some useless @!#$ I can't even use because its not even a complete kit!!!!!!!

I don't know what else I can do. Would getting in touch with the local police in his area do any good? I don't want to let him get away with this. If he had indeed shipped the last box that I need then he should have a tracking # for it and he won't give it to me so I don't believe he shipped it. If he would give me the tracking # then I could get in touch with UPS and find out where the package is. Also I have contacted UPS and they say there has only been two packages shipped from Frank to me and there is on record of a 3 box that he said he shipped.

What do you guys think I should do? Any help is appreciated!!!!

I see you just joined, congrats man. The 1999 you couldn't get a reflash for the PCM, you need to toss the Apexi unit, and get hptuners.com unit, maybe some one in your area would help you tune it. look here for way more help:

www.hptuners.com
http://www.j-body.org/forums/list.php?f=64

check out some of the stickies in there, lots of good info. The only reason I recommend the $650 hptuner is you have lots of money into your car, and that is the best way (without EMS) to make it perform really well.
