Turbo Manifold 2.2OHV Options?
Wednesday, May 23, 2007 11:24 PM
Im gonna start peicing together a turbo kit. One of my main problems thus far is Manifolds. I dont mind if its a LOG, nor Equal length. I was just wondering what my options where. Its a 95 2.2l OHV 5 sp. I dont wanna go with a kit as there are several turbo's, And BOV's forsale used locally.

Do Mitsu turbos [t25, 14b, Ect] all share a t3/t4 Flange?

I know of a t25 for sale for $50, Then a shop that will rebuild it with GREAT turnaround time for $226ish.. Is this a good route to go? or shall i spend $200 on a "rebuilt" one? I was considering Ebay untill now. LOL

Also, are GOD speed FMIC's any good?

Any recommendations on a cheap AFPR? I plan to upgrade that ASAP.

You can use an LT1 FPR to adjust fuel pressure, but don't expect a FPR to compensate for adding boost--because it doesn't.

Mitsu turbos use Mitsu flanges. Hahn racecraft uses Mitsu turbos, and therefore Mitsu flanges (and they do make a 2.2L kit).

A T25 is too small. Period. I've got a 14b in great condition if you're interested, but I'd consider that a tad on the small side as well, unless you plan on keeping a stock motor.

No plan to stay stock here. I do plan to run 6-7 PSI, for a while, Untill i get a walbro 255, good managment, And injector's. I plan to start buying parts for a turbo kit, While upgrading other things on the car Such as AFPR, Over drive pulleys, Spec stage 2 With fidanza flywheel, and a few suspension items.

The LT1 FPR's are around $100, arnt they? Are the ebay one's decent?

at $195, are the Ebay manifolds worth it? If worse comes to worse, I got ppl that can weld.
Is there any disadvantages with an Internal Waistgate?

yes they will

I would still like to know how people pull boost pressures out of their asses. Saying they'll run 4 - 5 psi on the street, and then turn it up to eleventy billion at the track. It makes no sense, there is no 'safe' boost pressure, lets get realistic here.

So your saying that me running 6-7psi untill i upgrade fuel pump, Injector's, Ect, and get it tuned is being optomistic? I Dont see how.. 6-7psi should be safe on the internals of a fairly stock long block.

Btw, I have no reason to "Bump it up" for the track. I will however, at somepoint throw it on the dyno, And bump the pressure up a bit. However, I need to stay in the safe range with it, Due to it being a Daily driver.

The only reason im turboing it, Is because i cannot sell it, and i want a fast car. My plans of my LT1 S10 were ruined when the prices of gas sky rocketed. So now ill start investing money in a turbo.. 6-7psi is my goal for now. After i get that turned, Ill decide from there. I dont need no 25psi, Changing trannys every week, Just to have a 12.032 et. I just wanna suprise a civic, or run with a mustang every now and than.

With Jtuners out of the game, the only manifolds I know of are the ebay ones, and the manifolds from the Hahn kits. I would love to pick up another 2200 manifold, but I don't want a ebay log manifold.

Ummm....
What injectors are you looking at? Just curious. It's kind of important to find 'em now.

I'm still disappointed that Jtuners went down. I really wanted one of their manifolds. Maybe someone else will start offering tubular manis for the 2200.

I would guess that no big company is going to offer tubular manifolds for the pushrod 2.2 - that motor is out of production for almost five years now. I want one too, but the only way I can see getting it is paying a shop to build it custom (700-1000$). It's just not worth it.

there was a post on here gauging interest on cutom turbo headers for the ohv motors, look it up and give some support. I even offered to send an extra j-tuners manifold to them for a template, but not enough people were interested. Go show your support, they were looking for at least 10 people for it.

I havent even started looking into them, At the moment. Why is it important to find now? Will my stock injectors [Provided they're clean, not leaking, And flowing well], Not hold up to the 6psi im planning to run for 6 or so months?

For 6psi, i planned to run a modified 4.3l vortec pump, AFPR, As well as having my stock injectors cleaned / Flow tested.

There are no aftermarket injectors for a 95 2.2L. Look up "top-feed conversion". Stockers are very small, and only good for very low power levels. 6psi (~200bhp) is pushing it, as you would be running about 100% duty cycle even with a 12:1 gain.
