exhaust help
Monday, May 28, 2007 5:25 PM
Ok I'm new to the world of boost, but I do know that my current exhaust setup isn't letting the turbo breath very well. I have a few different ideas and I can't decide on one.

Choice #1. Leaving my exhasut the same except for a 2.5in. exhaust cutout (either manual or electric) directly after my 2.5 downpipe.(before the cat.) Will this hurt anything because of that sensor in the cat? ( this would only be loud and annoying when I want it to be)

Choice#2. 2.5in. Full mandrel bent exhaust

Choice#3. 3in. Full mandrel bent exhaust. (probably loud)

#4. Just weld in some flanges on my current exhaust so when I want to go the the track I can crawl under there and just unbolt the damn thing. Plus possibly lose some pounds by doing this also.

Ultimately I am most concerned about the fastest possible 1/4 mile time, but I'd rather not have it sound like crap all the time.

I would go full 3" if you can...

A full 3" exhaust assuming you are going to run a cat and muffler or at least a resonator will not be that loud. The turbo will muffle a lot of the sound. With a TD04 and an open down pipe you will get an awsome whistle from the turbo but everyone knows what it is then. The electric cutouts are also nice but they do leak a little bit so know that before you get one.

2 votes for 3"....hmmmm

I think I've narrowed it down to 3" or a cutout. Possibly a manual cutout that I have to unbolt. Atleast that way I know it won't leak.

3" turbo-back with a high flow cat, resonator, and straight through muffler. Nice smooth, deep note that isn't very loud at all. It'll actually seem a little bit louder inside the car than it actually is outside the car.

Will 3" benifit me even though my downpipe is only 2.5"?

Any extra flow is gonna help but if you're gonna spend the money I would get a 3" downpipe as well. Also the electric cutout leaking is not that bad. It is a very small leak and it will seem very quit compared to the deafening sound of wide open exhaust directly under the front seats. I usually drive with mine open all the time unless I am in a residential area late at night. Also the getting under the car and opening it will become a pain in the ass in a hurry. If you are going to be out cruising at all this weekend up on scalp I will be out saturday and you can check out my electric cutout.

Ok maybe I'll see you Sat. then. I wish we had a safer place than scalp to race around here. Other than the track.

I still can't decide on the exhaust... hmmm

I'm not going up there to street race. People up there drive like fools when someone tries to race them so I stay out of it.
