i looked around and was trying to find the 2.4's oil pressure at idle, anyone know?
Mine is 60-70psi cold and 16-20psi when warm. That is with an Autometer mechanical gauge

Damn, and you have a stock oil pump huh?
Mine is 50 psi cold startup, and about 10 at idle when warm
Thats with an electrical autometer gauge.

Yes, stock oil pump, Valvoline Racing 10w30, and 70k on the motor
My next motor will have a 2.3 oil pump and I am told those numbers are higher with it

I'm not sure on the psi, but this winter if not sooner I will have the 2.3 swap on my 2.4 going in the car too.
David if any of your oil passages are bored larger your PSI will be lower because you will have higher flow.
For the most part....
Same pump
large cross section low PSI
Small cross section high PSI

This is also about where mine is. I'm using a electrical gauge. I had a manual gauge before, and they read the same.

I bet if you switched to 5w-30 it would drop some.

But I heard its not good to use a mech gauge for oil because it gets hot and it has to run through nylon hose or whatever... Soo yea..
Mike, I see what your saying.. I think imma try a mechanical gauge just to see if there is a difference... Im also using 10w30 synthetic..

Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic, Autometer mechanical gauge (been using this for 4+ years, nylon hose, not a SINGLE issue. If you're that worried, upgrade to their copper tubing). Stock engine, 162xxxkm, stock oiling system.
Cold start - 80psi, has gone to about 85 when driving cold.
Hot idle - 20psi or so.

Actually that is why I switched to a non synthetic 10w30. My oil pressure was way too low for my liking especially with the supercharger. I was about 50psi cold, 30 psi cruising and 8-10 psi warm idle, not to mention the little oil leaks.
No issues with Nylon line here

How so?? Are you talking on a cold motor, or warmed up motor? I do not see how 50 weight oil will be thinner than 30 weight.
FU Tuning
I do gotta say, since I switched to 10w30 from 5w30 my lifters have quieted down alot.. I used to have that damn ticking from up top, not anymore
But yea, ill be trying a mechanical setup this weekend..
Is there anyway I can get a mechanical setup without buying a whole new gauge? Could I use my electrical gauge with it(dumb question, I know) lol.

Sorry I call BS on you Chris. The 15, or 50, or 5, or 30 is not the protection of the oil. That is the flow of the oil at certain temps. 5w (W stand for winter grade). YOu want that number lower in colder weather to the oil flows better on cold starts. The 30 is what it gets to once the motor is warmed up. If anything because of where I live I should be running the 15w-50 and you running the 5w-30.
