New to the Forum, looking for some boost.

Hey guys,

I found a lot of info! I don't even know how to comprehend it. Anyway, I'm Kyle. I have a 2005 Cavalier LS 5spd. Totally stock. Actually, just went over the 36,000 mile warranty. So I figure now is a good time to start doing some work to it.

I am looking to boost it. I think I'm gonna go with a turbo kit, since I don't know too much about engines and working on cars, although I know more than the average person.

What I was wondering is, if someone can recommend a kit or point me in the direction on how to get one, and if someone here has installed a turbo kit on their car, roughly how much was the price?

Like I said, I'm really new to the turbo stuff, so ANY help is welcome!

Thanks everyone,

~Kyle

P.S. I know this question has probably been asked before, sorry if it's a repetitive question.

before you get a turbo or start ripping stuff apart.. read through your haynes/chilton manual.. get a feel for your car...

Hahn turbo kit.. cams & ported n polished head.. pistons, rods.. gm performance crank... good eco start.... clutch.. ttr has some, suspension & Tires.. i dont go low profile on the tires.. better traction.. less wheel hop..

idk if hptuners will work on ur eco.. ive heard it cant change things on some of them.. but check, and if you can.. get it..

ttr has solid engine mounts.. i have em on my 2.4l.. they rock.. check them out.. no wheel hop after i installed my upper and lower.. =D .... ? haha

Hahn Racecraft...But unless you know how to tune or have a respectable person tuning the motor, you have no business running a turbocharger. HPTuners won't work if you have the GM supercharger reflash for the Ecotec. Otherwise, you are free to tune as you please...within the limitations of the Software/ECM that is.

I wouldn't be doing the tuning, unless I learned a lot. I'd more than likely find someone around here that knows how to tune. Actually the whole reason I'm trying to get into this turbo stuff is because a customer of mine has an '04 GTO that has turbo. I'll try to get some more details on it, but this guy knows his stuff, and he recommended that if I wanted to do anything with my car, it should be a turbo.

So little help here, what's a GM supercharger reflash, and how do I find out if I have one.

If you haven't messed with your ECU then you don't have the reflash. You have to go to a dealership to have it reflashed. Basically it's the software in the computer that tells your car how to handle boost, but seeing as how your car wasn't boosted form the factory, it can't read boost. That's the purpose of the reflash, to read boost and adjust for it accordingly.

Ok, So I'll have to take my car to the dealer to get the ECU reflashed. About how much do they charge for something like that?

What I'm trying to do is just gain a decent amount of whp while mainting most of the stock parts. I know I'll have to change a few stuff, but the guy I was talking too said if I kept the boost psi low, than the engine should be able to handle it. Correct?

Sorry for being so new to all this. Just let me know if I start to get annoying.

If you're looking for a complete kit, I'd recommend Hahn Racecraft. I am a firm believer that they got their sh*t together. It is a very well thought out kit, SUPER Reliable, and easy to install.

Check out my profile. I've got tons of install pics on photobucket.

Once you go Turbo there is no turning back!!

Yeah I actually emailed Hahn yesterday to see how much a kit was. I think they said something around $3300 somethin. So..............I'll have to save some cash. It gives me time to do more research.

When I say I'm new to anything turbo related, I mean it!! I don't know anything yet lol. I've been reading every bit of info on this site though. It's still a little confusing, just cause of the different parts and such, but I think I'll get the hang of it.
