I finally got my oil pressure gauge hooked up after the Hahn install and I have low oil pressure!! I noticed I also have some ticking noise coming from the engine now (or is more noticeable with the turbo on)... The gauge is T'd off of the turbo feed line. Its a brand new gauge, the sending unit is directly off of the fitting not on an extension.
I have about 50 psi max on a cold start, then it comes down to 20-30...but, when its warm I'm only at about 20 psi and as low as like 10 when hot and idling!!! my oil level is fine...
has anyone else had problems with their oil pressure? what can be the cause of this? faulty oil pump? my valvetrain (lash adjusters worn? - I have the Patriot stg II head)? crank bearings?
I know this is not good, does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start??
I've had oil pressure problems before but thought it was oil leak related (now fixed)
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
listening intently.... i have an ld9 that idles with a pressure of about 12psi but cold starts at 80psi.... i know my engine is known for oil pressuring problems but still listening.
I had the same issue !! I've been running 10w-30 w/ Lukas Oil additive. Even with this oil combination at cold starts (summer time), I have about 60psi at idle. When its good and hot I have about 18-22psi. I work at Rentschler Chevy and all our service info says 1 lb. for every 100 rpms.
We should meet up.

My 04 Eco is around the same guys, cold start of about 55 PSI, warms up to around 35 ish, after about 1 hour of driving it gets as low as 10 PSI. I thinking this is normal pressure, I installed my Guage when my car had like 15,000 miles on it and has read the same ever since. I also installed my guage befor the turbo and had it on w/o the turbo for a bit.

Whaaat, man that is all normal.. You should check out my oil pressures, then that'll be something to worry about lol..
Your good buddy, like shifted said.. You should be worried if you dont have pressure at high rate.

I checked out oil pressure in Service Information (DealerWorld) for a 2000 Cav 2.4. It states 10 psi min.(hot) @ 900rpms and 30 psi min.(hot) @ 3000rpms. I'm sure that we all have no oil pressure problems. Its just amazing how drastic the pressure changes from hot to cold engine temps. I also have had my gauge installed way before the turbo. There was a slight drop of pressure after the turbo install, but nothing extremely drastic. I noticed a bigger difference between winter and summer than anything.
I feel a little better now, but I still have a ticking noise, which is louder of late... my pressure doesn't go much over 20 no matter what rpm when hot...dunno, I was worried because of the ticking and my Haynes manual says 50-80 psi at 1000 rpm for the ECO.
thanks for the feedback... Brett, any racing going on this Friday? - rarely get one off and I'm off tomorrow
anyone have thoughts on my ticking noise? I suppose I should post a new topic...
