Custom boost cams
Wednesday, August 15, 2007 6:18 PM
By now most of us know about the secret cam swap. I am looking to do custom cams for my car. I have a cai, 62mm tb, the gm charger, and full exaust. I will have a ported and polished head w/ 1mm oversied valves, full internals, msd, and I have been looking into swapping a m62 over. The secret cams profile is: 200 degrees @ .050" with .375" lift for the intake and 200 degrees @ .050" with .360" lift for the exhaust. If I stay with the GM charger I will max out the performance with it which boost wise would be around 8psi and if I switch over to the m62 I am guessing around 14psi??? What lift and duration should I look at to get more out of her?

JBP Stage 2 cams:
Duration @ .050*, Valve Lift INTAKE 260*, 377 EXHAUST 268*, 375
Will these cams help or hinder my application?

They've got about the same amount of lift with longer duration. I would probably go with something that has a little higher lift than what you're using, with about the same or maybe slightly longer duration...not quite as much as the JBP cams.

I sent an email to JBP about these cams for a supercharger and all they replied was " to ask specifically the LD9 SC grind when ordering" I asked them and the one person I know to have ordered them and noone has replied with specs

Second issue, I have been reading that SC motors like more lift than duration. I know to compare apples to apples, but Crane's ecotec SC grind does not have as much duration as the JBP stage 2's

Third issue, that is a lot of money to pay for a REGRIND!!!

^^^ J-Body Performance.

The only problem with doing any cams that have more than 400 lift is that you have to machine the cam towers so they will work. Plus I heard the opposite when it comes to boost cams (you want more duration than lift). The only thing I can think of is that when you are forcing air in you want it open longer to get more in instead of opening more for a short time??? Is this right?

Supercharger: Likes more duration. Turbocharger: be Careful, and watch overlap, or you will spit flames and raw fuel if taken to the exterme.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I have the GM charger but, I want to get a M-62 on my car. JBP's stage 1cams are the secret cams... they just cost more. I am wondering if there stage 2 will work well or not??? Any input will be helpful.
