9 sec sunbird!!!!!!

jk, just wanted to get ur attention!

this is a thread on my 1st turbo build, which i will update as i go along

just need a lil help!

for starts, i have a 91 2.0 n/a TBI sunbird, im attempting to do a 2.0 turbo conversion using a T3 from a dodge.

so far these are the parts i will be using

T3 watercooled turbo
2.0 turbo forged pistons
2.0 turbo intake manifold
1.8 fuel rail
fiero TB
turbo exhaust manifold
custom down pipe, 2.5 exhaust
2.25 charge pipes
dodge srt-4 intercooler
RRFPR
MBC & boost gauge
air/fuel gauge

since this is my 1st build, for now im only trying to run with around 6-7 psi, until i get more familiar with tuning..etc

i havent decided on injectors or the fuel pump yet or what im going to tune with

i also heard i have to convert from DIS to dizzy, which i read about...but wasnt really in depth...so i dont know quite what to do with that

im having a hard time getting the ecm and wiring for the 2.0 turbo(dealer doesnt carry them), do i really need them?

BASICALLY, im looking for advice on installation, tuning, what im going to do with wiring/ecm, converting from DIS to dizzy, wiring for the extra injectors for the 2.0 intake, oil and coolant lines for the turbo...probably more which i cant remember right now

please dont put down my project, just need advice

feel free to contact me on AIM: soanxiousnsweet or yahoo: j105854

What exactly are you looking for? You really only asked one question, but I really don't know much about the first or second gens to tell you whether or not your ECM can be chipped for boost. If not, then yes you will need a different ECM.

As far as saying that you are looking for advice:
1. Dizzys just use points (which should be pretty straight forward)
2. Injectors work like resisitors which just requires cutting the leads and splicing (assuming you don't use the 2.0 harness). But you said "extra injectors" which sounds to me like you are talking about staged injectors...If that is the case, then you definately can't use the stock ECM.
3. You can find ss braided hose and AN fittings for the oil lines pretty much anywhere...From Summit to eBay.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

for "extra injectors" i meant for the 2.0 turbo intake, which uses 4..and i have the TBI which uses one

Just to prove you wrong, I'm going to eventually going to do it (well, maybe not, got other things to worry about)
Actually, the RWD aspect is a drag on the car and a v8 is unnecessary.

91 Sunbird doesn't have DIS
Get the turbo car ECM and chip for factory-like performance. Or read about 1redry's turbo TBI OHV engine.
You will need to modify or replace your wiring harness if you use the turbo car ecm.

Don't try attracting attention with the subject. If you want serious answers, post a serious title and people with relative knowledge will likely help. Not too many on the boost forum even know about the old Sunbirds. Mo' better answers in 1st gen and 2nd gen forums.

so far as i know, the ohc engine has a distributor, and so does NOT have a Distributorless Ignition System. i had to work on my stepbrother's ohc 'bird once, i cursed it and took a @!#$ on the air cleaner.

yea you do need a clue. you think anyone helped me much more than helping me with lifting crap thats too heavy? I built my car exactly the way I wanted it, because I was smart enough to know what to do.

I researched, researched, tried some parts, read and researched some more. I made sure I knew what I was doing when I swapped my engine to the eco from the OHV, and I made sure I knew what I was doing when I changed the head on the eco out for the patriot head.

i have a life, and I know what I'm doing. I've raced all over the country and have networked with a lot of awesome people in the jbody community.

if you ask people to hold your hand and show you what to do, whats the point in doing any of it yourself anyway?

try it, and see. research. learn. nobody likes a pest who bugs with stupid questions and annoying thread topics.

why not just ask how to use a wrench or some other kind of asinine question.. you're obviously not at any kind of mechanical level to care for a car with the modifications you desire.

baby steps. don't ask people to do the work for you or to spoon feed you. those are rules I live by, and this forum knows it.

sorry to be harsh, but the truth hurts.
money buys parts, but it doesn't buy brains. I suggest you take a step back and look a little closer into what you're dealing with.

If you're too afraid to do stuff on your own and learn something, then you might want to look into having a shop do it for you.

i would look for a parts car with that set up your looking for there where sunbird turbo cars i would find one thats rusted out or hit and transfer the parts over. i would i would maybe use alky injection and raise the boost on the car.
www.alkycontrol.com on the web page said he fabricate on for cars other then listed on his page
as far as the motor i would maybe replace the head gasket and check the head out see if it warped or not

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Sunbird

i found this pretty helpful
as you you can see there is one motor that makes 165hp i would shoot for that one

Rob is envious of your factory-turbo car >|
Just do a bunch of searching around, you'll eventually find the answers here or elsewhere on the web. It's pretty much guaranteed that someone has posted a similar topic before.

why not just go with a stand alone like megasquirt or something it will save you plenty of time! you can wire it how you need and there is plenty of help and information out there on stand alones its not that hard and if your fabing the turbo parts why not start from scratch on the engine management!

Sunbird engines are equipped with DIS from 92-94. It's a Bosch style ignition which is generally not compatible with domestic GM ecm's.

Your car has a distributor. If you follow the plug wires from the plugs, they end at a round cap attached to a distributor. The TBI ecm does not have the hardware to work with the DIS system used on these engines.

I see the turbo car ecm showing up on Ebay all the time. Look for 7749 or 1227749.

Nice thing about using the 7749 and factory calibration is that it has wastegate control built in as well as the ability to pull timing and add fuel if knock is an issue. And it's already programmed in.

Slow is right.
I'm doing the same as you almost.
Just get everything that came on a turbo sunbird, even the engine, and put it on your car.
Then youll be set.
