Ok im looking to start my vharge pipes and such so i have a few questions..
-Is it a good idea to run a smaller hot side charge pipe and a larger cold side? I was thinking of going with 2.25" hot and 2.5" cold.
-Is there any good or bad to ceramic coating your charge pipes?
-Is there any differnce between using steel or aluminium? Keep in ind i plan on caoting them..unless stated its bad to do so..
Thanks alot..phil
for piping size I would keep it the same on both sides, with a proper sized quality intercooler you shouldn't lose more then a couple psi through the intercooler so pressures should remain about the same, other then air temp there is really difference, no need IMO to run different sized piping, especially at such a small difference. in diameter.
as for a coating, people tend to have mixed thoughts on this, some people say its better to coat them cause it keeps under hood temps out of piping ect.. and some people claim ceramic coating it bad becasue it stops heat transfer from the compressed air through the pipes and wont let it cool off any before it gets to the intercooler (granted its a pipe not a heat sink, I dought your gonna drop the temp much if at just from the brief time it spends in the pipes)
Steel vs. aluminum is more personal preference.
Aluminum is lighter and better at dissipating heat than steal. Steal is cheaper and much easier to run
Paint is the norm i would say or powder if $ is not a problem. I myself see no need to ceramic charge pipes . Just use wrap if you got a pipe next to a header or down pipe.

well i want a polished look thats why i want to go with ceramic coating and its only $14/ft to do so its not to bad at all. I know i could just polish the aluminum and i may just do that but if ceramic will help i dont care about the money. I am running the saab setup if that makes a differnce and hope to upgrade at a later date..phil
I'm planning on bare 2.25" aluminum pipes to the IC, then powercoated 2.5" steel pipes after that.

^^any reason why? for the diff?

Material and coating differences for as much heat transfer to ambient before the IC as possible, and then as little transfer as possible from ambient after the IC. Size differences are just to make the transition from 2: turbo outlet to 3" TB inlet as gentle as possible.
