Sputtering when in boost
Saturday, January 05, 2008 12:02 PM
When I'm under boost my car drives fine but as soon as I get into boost it starts to sputter/stutter. I've checked the turbine wheel & spins freely with minimal play.

Any help would be great. Thanks

you are running lean... need more fuel.

its not just as simple as more fueling....get a wideband and find a dyno shop or fellow j memeber with hptuners stat and see whats really going on.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I know it's not a fueling issue because I've been running my car with this setup for about a year & a half- 2 years now. I 've been asking around & several people think it's spark plug issue. So I'm gonna try that & go from there.

or a fuel pump going bad....not keeping the fuel pressure up

It could also be too much fuel. When my previous injector controller went bad, it flooded the engine in boost and sputtered just like you're talking about. I agree with K Vega...get a wideband and see what's really happening.

Well, I changed my spark plugs & everything is working normal now & no more sputtering when in boost

In my GTP I had a sputtering problem also when under boost. It was the coil packs. So I figured it had to be a spark issue.

could have been anything....i think the best advice was this:

its a lot better than throwing parts at it until its fixed....it's not worth the risk of damaging your engine, especially if you have a lot of $$ wrapped up into it...

I suppose you made an educated guess, and lucked out...and I am glad you got it fixed, but a boosted j-body, I would not just toss plugs at it...or a fuel pump....or anything until i had some proper diag. into it.
