Ok looked around couldnt find the info i needed . So just got my turbo on and i think i have compressor surge my bov isnt opening fully when i free rev in my driveway. Do i need to actually go drive it to get it to blow off does this sound like normal operation of a blow off valve. thanks for any help
you mean like turbo flutter?
it will sound different since its not under load. when I had the 4 door turbo'd the BOV was always louder when under load than when free reved.
i realize that but did you bov open alot when free reving because mine barely cracks open and it sound like the turbo flutters or surges or do i just need to go drive it under a load and see what it does this is my first turbo car so im lost
what kind of bov are you using?

^ and did you adjust the tension spring, as well verify that the bov is connected to a proper vacum source.
flutter is really a common thing when you dont develop much boost. and free revving really doesnt develop boost at all.

its a turbo smart bov type 1 and theres no adjustment for the spring other than shims which i belive make it tighter nothing to loosen it up and yes it is a good vac source checked that already
Mine barely will build boost at all, while just being revved up, and my BOV barely makes a sound. I can get it to, but its useless. Just drive it to build the boost.
ok guess i will drive it and see what happens thanks
sitting in your driveway you wont get any boost the wastegate opens and bypasses exhaust gas down line from your turbo
and the blowoff valve or bypass valve should be open aswell if it is copressor surge can be detrimental to your turbo
