By-pass valve failure

just curious what happens if your by-pass valve fails... would it get stuck open? or closed? what would happen in either case? how could you tell if it was properly working?

it sticks closed. loss of gas millage.

with the engine running, at idle, you should see the lever for the valve, go to WOT, and it should swing closed.

It could get stuck in either position, or even half-way. It's vacuum vs spring pressure in normal operation.

Hey Ken

I got my car "running" but i believe my valve is stuck in the closed position as well. I just bought a new actuator, (because my car was missing it's completely) but it's probably not going to do anything because the valve seems seized.

What's going on with yours?

if it is stuck closed its not good you can get compressor surge that will mangle you compressor fins this is especially true under high boost
