Just wondering what you guys are running on Twin Cams with Turbo Setups
I currently am running 2.25 Piping 2.25 Hi Flow cat Resonator Borla 2.25 Pro XS
I love the sound
but
Going with a turbo setup running 6 psi for this year so im going to goto a 3" setup maybe not right away but ASAP
Can i get away with my 2.25 setup for the time being or is 3" a must?
I don't want something overly loud as my setup now is perfect but just wanna see what others are running for options

Your doing the opposite of me, Im switching from turbo to supercharger lol. But yea 3" is best for turbo, youd be ok with 2.25" but your exhaust would be a little choked up, specialy since your gona have atleast a 2.5" downpipe I hope. If you want quiet just get a high flow cat, some sort of small straight through res, and whatever muffler you choose. I was gona do a 2.5" catless downpipe, then 3" piping all the way back to a superturbo
For piping, customtubes of course. Then look into ttr or whatever for the rest, or for a wide selection of mufflers/resonators try summit or ebay or whatever.
i went 2.5" full stainless and im going to run 9 psi. i could have went 3" but ill be fine with what i have for a long time

For performance, with only 6psi it will definately put you in the power range where a 2.5" will most likely provide better response and total hp under the power curve (which of course is what you want) compared to a 3". However if you plan to run higher power numbers in the future, you don't want your EGT's to become unmanageable, so dumping as much of the exhuast as fast as possible with a 3" is often the better choice...especially if you ever plan to run in the 300+ range. If you are upgrading, I would definately do a full 3", but you should still be fine with the 2.25 you have now until you do.

2.5" would be fine.. think about cars that have 2.5" factory exhaust and the power they make... one of the top of my head is a 98-02 Trans Ams with the LS1 (mainly cuz i have one lol) but they run 2.5" and mine dynoed 315whp stock..

Unlike a supercharged or n/a application, you want as little to no backpressure downstream of the turbo. The turbine creates its own backpressure. So, the bigger the better.

Yeah...not quite sure what I was thinking at the time. The system will only flow as well as the size of the turbine exducer anyways. Now that I think about it, I even have Mark Warner's Street Turbocharging book back home that mentions the optimal exhaust for a turbocharger is the shape of a megaphone tapered about 10-20 degrees if I remember correctly. Thank you for correcting me. My apologies for the misinformation.

Believe it or not, the turbo acts like a muffler. On my 85 Xr4ti (turbo 2.3L Ford engine) I ran open pipes out the back for well over 2 years and never once had a cop stop and harass me.
3" will be quieter than you think, I say stick with 3"
As someone who builds a lot of exhausts and likes to save money, I'd say:
Your 2.25 is a little small, but until you decide how much boost you're going to run (long-term) your best bet for this season is probably to remove the cat and run your current exhaust.
There's no point in building a 2.5" exhaust if you're going to decide to fully build the motor next winter and run 15lbs the following year. Removing the cat should free things up enough that you'll run fine until you come to a hard decision on the future of your motor and boost.
If you're going to build a 2.5" setup this season, make sure you won't regret it down the road. Ideally, a 3" setup would be best for bigger numbers of boost, paired with no catalytic converter.

Ever look inside a cat? There's
tons of restriction there. Boost likes low restriction (whether it's nitrous, turbos or blowers)

I Had my Exhaust done about 8 months ago with a mild set up sorta like yours...only about 6 PSI atm. I had the guy run a 2.25 downpipe to a 4 inch flex tube (cat-less) then 2.5 all the way back to a ebay muffler I had (fart can basicly). I like the responce I get and the only thing Ill do different is change out the muffler maybe down the road.
However, ever since I went Cat-less it is crazy loud. I have a feeling it has something to do with my straight through muffler but with only a turbo and 1 muffler inline my exhaust sets off alarms, it sounds good from a idle but its loud. 02 sim works like a charm also.
