Title says it all. Looking into getting a manifold made for my 3400 swap wondering what material works best without cracking.

3400 SWAP DONE. 187WHP 212TQ (14.4 @96MPH NA) 240WHP 310TQ (N2O)

I believe cast is the absolute best for crack resistance....which is why all your oem ones are made that way, but getting a turbo mani custom cast is big $$

After that, I believe carbon steel ranks next, then stainless. But if you know someone/somewhere who is REAL good at welding stainless, stainless shouldn't give you any problems.

Are you referring to intake or exhaust manifolds?

I MADE MY OWN STAINLESS ONE BELOW. IT WORKS GREAT! ITS NOT A HACK JOB, LOOKS MORE PROFESSIONAL THAN SOME OF THE PROFESSIONALY PRODUCED MANIFOLDS OUT THERE.

... but you will NEVER have a need for it on a street engine

next best would be 321 or 347 (both are resistant to carbide precipitation under 1500 deg F)

then 304

then 316 (not positive on this one)

then mild steel or high ductile cast iron.
