TB for m45
Thursday, May 15, 2008 4:50 PM
So am am thinking about getting a larger TB for my 2000 LD9 with the m45...I know it is 52mm stock and can handle a bore up to 58mm...I found in a post that the opening of the m45 s/c is just under 60mm...I was looking at the MRZ 60mm TB but am not sure how much more power I want to add to my LD9...I had the engine rebuilt about 42,000kms ago (with more or less stock parts or a little better than stock)...I am going to be installing the 2.7" pulley soon, along with the header and crank and alternator pulley...I am not sure how much HP I am going to be at (hoping to get it dynoed when all the parts are on, but I'm not sure where I can get it done) and don't really want to push it too hard...I am not looking for a lot more power just want to make everything I have work a little better...I am looking into alky injection (cooling mist) to help out with the temp of the s/c(maybe this fall)...so if I did get a 60mm TB do you think my car would handle all my mods decently...I read a guy saw an extra PSI with his 62mm TB...right now on my stock 2.8" s/c pulley I am seeing 5.5psi and sometimes 6psi at redline...not sure what the 2.7" pulley will give me, maybe 7psi?...so my other worry is that I may be getting to the max psi I really want to run in my car with just the pulley alone...what are your ideas or opinions about adding a larger TB and alky injection on my car with the mods I have on a relatively stock motor...I am still running the GM reflash if anyone is wondering...any suggestions would be great.

A larger throttle body is a great mod for the M45. Skip the crank and alt pulley and just get the header.

Sounds like you're all set for a bigger TB then, and get a smaller supercharger pulley and a tune.

I have a smaller s/c pulley on the way...ordered a 2.7" from smooth flow pulleys...I am trying to look around locally to see if there is a place to get a tune in Atlantic Canada...I have heard there is a place in New Brunswick that can do dyno tunes so I will look into that...it would be nice to get a tune done to see how my injectors are handling the power and if I need to upgrade to 370cc injectors...not sure if my car will handle a larger TB and a tune on the 310cc injectors that come with the m45 kit.

i'm pretty sure it will handle it.. lol. if you ever want to get bigger injectors and a tune, go BIG so you can just re-tune later on when you add more power rather than have to get bigger injectors every time. at least 440cc

What's wrong with getting a crank pulley?

Right now I am using a Mantapart 57mm TB and it works great but I still plan on upgrading to a 60mm when I get the chance

I would skip the crank pulley too ...... if it was an underdrive pulley My oversized crank pulley works great!!

My alternator and crank pulley I got from MD LD9...they are all stock size just light weight...more than half the weight of stock (good for 7-8 wheel hp)...I haven't got mine in the mail yet but I know a lot of people who bought them from the GP they really like them...hopefully the get in this week...my header, 2.7" pulley and the alt/crank pulleys should be ariving this week...I had to order a new actuator assembly because the plastic nipple where the line hooks up to it broke in shipping...hopefully I'll notice a difference with those mods...hoping for a net gain of 25-30 bhp for those mods I am going to put on next week...gonna order engine mounts after I get all my parts...I may look into a 60mm TB from MRZ..I like their upper strut tower bars too.
