Are there any common, long term negative effects of the supercharger on the ld9? and should i upgrade any of the engine components like the intake and exhaust valves along with the supercharger?

Nope, the Supercharger doesn't push the 2.4 at all. Make sure your water pump is replaced while you're getting dirty though.

Long Term Negative Effects?? The life of an engine can be significantly decreased or something like ring failure.

Whats the safest way to boost a car? Dont boost it.

With that being said, I have a boosted car too. The fun of doing it is worth the risk. I would recomend that you have a second car to drive incase anything happens and while installing the products.

^ what?

use a thicker oil for the added stress\ heat. you'll be fine.

the one negative side effect of being boosted was racing my car ALOT, this led to early trans failer, (123K).

and from what i hear my stock LD9 is still going.. should have 138K on it by now.. (OE water pump too)

15W50 M-1, and watter wetter to help the dex-cool lube the pump go a long ways.

Good work Watson. That was the point, it is minuscule
And in my case, it is $3.

ok, so thicker oil and premium gas and i should be good. thanx guys. I'm not planning on adding the s/c until next winter, so I'll prob end up rebuilding the engine and maybe replacing the trans cuz the car will have around 120k miles on it by then. That way if i every decide to sell it, i'll be able to get more than $3000 for it.

when wade and i recently took the trip (7 hours one way) out to the dells in his car we put 89 octane in it and it ran just fine, as long as you can keep the car a majority of the time out of boost (which is very freaking easy on the interstate) the amount of knock should be kept to a minimum, plus if the car does see knock the computer will retard the timing to a safe level anyways.

you can definitely tell a difference in performance between 89 and 91-93 premium though, believe me, i drove the SOB the entire way there, once we put some good ole 93 in it the damn thing came ALIVE.

Riddle me this... riddle me that...

Well, you know that the knock sensor doesnt completely PREVENT damage, right? By the time the knock sensor catches it, the spark knock has already occured. That means, the damage could have already been done. The PCM just keeps it from knocking again right afterwords.

here is an example...

BANG, KNOCK,... PCM says "oh crap, we are spark knocking!!" and pulls timing. "Now we are done knocking, advance timing!!" Then repeat.

Get it?? They actually have spark plugs that are pressure sensing that can detect the conditions before a knock happens, but is used on stuff like indy cars. Serious money race stuff. They run over $800 peice.

good thing "pinging" happens first then, the knock sensor hears that first, and you CAN adjust your knock attack, and recovery....... its a good thing to be on the very edge of "knock", it helps with power and fuel economy.

Long term effects could include:
boost addiction
engine builds
more boost
empty bank accounts
tinkering with every car you own

Aside from those... all is dandy I think
