Boost Creep ! : (
Monday, May 12, 2008 9:54 PM
I am in the process of picking up my Wastegate..... AND I have a killer deal ready on a 38mm Tial unit. (Authentic, NOT a knock off). Now my plans for my build are in the following link as a good amount of you have already seen*.

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=2&i=412033&t=412033 Link Provided to show you the build.

So my question is, Will their be any boost creep with a single 38mm Tial unit ? My plans are to eventually bring the car up to 14 to 15psi on a GTK 500, maybe even beyond that.

*I am assuming I shouldn't see such issue's on a smaller motor, (SppedRacerZ used one).

ANy input would be great appreciated. AND if this has not been brought up before, then it is one for the archives for future searching .

You should be fine.

-Trailblazer SS - not so custom 6.0L - custom intake - custom tune
- (1) 2.4L on an engine stand (1) blown trans (2) good quad trans (1) eco trans = party

At low boost brians set up gets alot of creep. It really likes to jump to 14psi (on 8psi spring). I would suggest a 44mm.

You also have to take into consideration wategate placement. There are lots of differant places you can plumb it into, each one will have differant flow characteristics. On Wagonstein, with the internal wastegate set with minimal preload, it gets massive boost creep. With the boost controller set to 9 psi, it hits 14 psi at 3500 rpm!

This is due to the internal wastegate not flowing enough. After I port it then this won't be a problem. But I'm not increasing the size of the wastegate. All I'm going to do is channel more exhaust gas to the direction of the wastegate by means of porting/polishing.

External gate for me, placement is right where all the runners meet on the manifold.

Yeah when I had my cheaper turbo on, it made 8psi max with a 8psi wastegate. My garrett makes 10psi max with the same wastegate. I dunno if thats relevant though...
