can some one that is using the saab kit point me in the direction as to were i can find a oil restrictor for the garrett gt2052s? my first thought was to check ATP but all the ones they have are turbo specific? could i use one off any other gt series turbo? any help would be much appreciated, i thought of maybe a hardware store also but i wouldnt wanna risk getting the wrong fitting and blowing seals and what not. thanks guys!
What style fitting is the oil inlet, and more imprtantly, are you sure it should have a restrictor??
Lots of the GT garrett turbos do NOT use a restrictor.
well the guy i bought the kit from was running a restrictor on there i asked him. and i just texted him and he said he doesnt remember wat style of fitting is on there
Pic of oil inlet??? I might be able to point you in the right direction.
im at work right but illl get a pic up in a couple of hours, dunno if this helps but i had a oil feed and return kit at home that i was gonna use for my t3 turbo project i gave up on and that oil line screwed right on no problem, of course that may be of no help at all lol but its worth a shot, either ways ill try and get that pic up, thanks man
Also, are you sure on the turbo....GT2050 does not sound all that familiar.
thats wat it says on the turbo it has a small plate on there and thats the only thing on there that may be the style of turbo it is, i searched and alot of stuff came up for that turbo just nowere to really get any thing for it, so im thinking it may not need one even though the guy before me said he used one
To be honest, I would contact someone like ATP about it, and find out. Is this the ball bearing GT series, or journal bearing?
They would know better than I if that needs a restrictor.
I just know some GT series do....some dont. Double check before you go either way.
yeah its a journal, ive tried calling and they dont answer so for right now i just emailed them about it, either ways ill get that pic up later man, thanks for the help!!!!
They dont do over the phone tech support anyways.....
If it is the joural bearing type, my guess is you WILL need the restrictor, but the one for the T3/T4 that you already have should be good if it needs one.
when i called atp about my t3 60-1 they told me not to use one at first and then if i see oil, then put one in and it should fix it.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
well this is how it is, the stock oil inlet on the saab turbo has a different fitting added on there, the fitting is screwed on to the stock one, this fitting has 1/8th threads, my current oil line i bought for my t3 setup screws right on there fine with no problems. so my question is, is there any type of oil restrictor that has one female end to screw onto the turbo fitting and one male end to screw into the oil line?
no the one that was added to the stock fitting screws over the stock threads not inside of it like that one would
sooooo, you need this one:
another fitting
It doesnt show the back, but that should fit over a threaded nipple, and says it is for journal bearing, and large frame GT BB models.
its kinda like this
thissssss
the left side gets screwed on to the turbo oil inlet and the right side is threaded so it can take the oil line
htat second one u posted looks like it will work but the threaded part is flat, on my oil line is kinda has to be pointed to kinda lock in there, is this fine or will it leak since its not shaped like theinside of the oil line?
something like this
im thinking something like the restrictor onthe bottom of the page will work since it looks like it has the pointed end to lock in to the oil line
the first three links u posted look like wat is on the turbo already, i think i may just buy the that is in the link i posted and see howit goes if not lol i may have to buy an inline one and but a couple different fittings and put them all together
I would recomend you take the turbo to a fitting store, hardware store, or performance shop to find out which one of those you need before you just order one....
lol only thing is i live in a small small town lol and there is hardly anything here, i may have to take a trip though to a shop see wat they can recommend, thanks for the help man ur right buying something without even knowing if it will work is a no no, ill drive up to a shop and see wat they can recomend, thanks for the help andill let u know bout that other turbo soon
I'm running the Saab Garrett Turbo. GT2052s.
I'm not running a restrictor. As far as I know Saab didn't use one, so why should i?
No leaks here, no oil in charge pipes. Everything works great.

i wanted to use one since i thought the oil feed location on the driver side of the head puts out up to like 900psi i think and seeing how most turbos only need like 60psi under wot i really thought it might damage the turbo
