Ecotec Supercharger Kit Install
Tuesday, July 15, 2008 11:24 AM
Did anyone take any pictures of thier M62 supercharger kit installation? The reason I ask is because I am about to get real deep into this install over the next few days and when I look at the instruction manual (downloaded it off the web) its in black and white and doesnt exactly point out what it is I am going to have to grind off for my tensioner to fit, and I wont have a whole lot of time to leave my car down so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the PDF that comes with the kit has alot clearer pictures and shows before and after pictures for the grinding. The instructions still suck and I still had to ask alot of questions. Which version of the instructions did you download? The ones that came with the kit are a little bit better and easier to understand than the ones that are in the ecotec build book.

Make sure you have power tools for grinding.

I downloaded the instructions off of paceperformance.com. When I put the part number in and was looking at the details, there was a link that said click here to download instruction manual and I did, and it said, "the area painted in yellow is the area that needs to be ground off"...and its in black and white...not very good instructions at all.

That is the old version that is in the ecotec build book. The cd that comes with the kit has a little bit better instructions. Have something ready for grinding, check the tensioner before installation and see if there is a way to hold it compressed (I didn't think of that until it was too late.) Some hydraulic tensioners can be compressed before installation and a pin inserted to hold it in place, I'm not sure about ours though. Also if you have a cold air or short ram intake be ready to modify them. I didn't think that part through and am now waiting for a 3" 90* elbow so I can put my short ram back on after I chop it.

here are some pics. you might not be able to tell since it was ground way off lol

if you put the tensioner sort of on you can see what you need to grind. it would get right in the way of the tensioner spinning.

Listen, I had no idea this kit was this easy to install. I have only been out there 2 hours and i am 3/4 of the way done. I didnt buy a kit either, just used a little mechanical knowledge. Screw paying 2600 for that kit. Ill have pics up later.

Well ran into a few issues, I guess I completely overlooked the coolant hose, so I couldnt get it finished tonight But hopefully the dealer will have the hose I need in stock. Im assuming I can just use the cobalt upper radiator hose???

Good man. Thank you sir. Are you running any kind of aftermarket exhaust? This is a little bit off topic but, I bought a Tsudo 4-2-1 header a while ago and I am going to put that on here real soon and I was trying to find a nice sounding exhaust, nothing too raspy, I hate loud exhaust. Any one got any suggestions?
Re: Ecotec Supercharger Kit Install

it will probably sound raspy since you have a S/C, mine is a little bit here and there but its not too bad. i just have the pacesetter 4-1 ceramic coated header and custom 2.25" header back exhaust with magnaflow high flow cat, 18" resonator, magnaflow 4"x8" oval muffler.

Sounds like im gonna be up a river without a paddle on the raspiness... oh well. Do you have the GM reflash? I called the dealership about taking my car up there and getting the reflash and they told me to have my receipt from the kit purchase and I was like WTF??? I didnt buy the kit. Do you know why they want a receipt? I figured since i was a paying customer, and I have the part number for my trans, they would just hook me up, but I dunno. Im kinda scared to take it to the dealer right now because I dont want to hear, " oh you didnt buy the kit so we cant flash it for you".

yea i have the reflash.

get a big resonator and the raspiness shouldnt be bad at all.

tell them you cant find your receipt, maybe that will work

Literally it took me 4 hours to do. If you have the right tools, it is a piece of cake.

Depends. If you're using the stock (or similar sized) throttle body, yes. I believe you just need to cut down the pipe to fit properly. If you're going with something like an LS1 tb, or something that requires a longer adapter to clear the power steering reservoir, then you would need something custom (or just slap a filter right on the TB)
