I asked some questions in a different thread in this forum and didnt get many replies. Just have a few questions to make sure my coolingmist kit is functioning 100%.
1. My pump is mounted to the strut tower, is it ok to have it mounted upside down(relay down)?? Im sing a custom L-bracket and when I had it up it cracked my cf hood. I can redrill a hole but was wondering if it made any difference anyways.
2. Im using an m5 nozzle, should I get an m4 or is the m5 fine for my current setup?
3. Everyone who tapped a tb spacer on their ld9, what exact size drill bit nd tap did you use? And is there a necessary length it should be or just as close to the spacer edge toward the sc?
4. Im using a 50/50 mix of yellow heet and just purified water, is distilled water a must?
I have the tank out now resealing the fitting in it cause it wasnt tapped right since plastic is a pita, and was leaking all over my trunk lol. I tested the system and its working directly on 1psi which is where I want it. Id also love to see how everyone has theres setup just for references and such.

3. it should tell you in the instruction manual that came with the coolingmist kit, i believe my kit said to use a 1/8th NPT tap, i just tapped the middle of the spacer.
4. just buy methanol from crappy tire or walmart in the paint section, and distilled water, you don't want mineral junk that is in regular water going into your engine, stick with distilled.

The nozzle sounds too big to me. M2(180cc/min) is more the size needed, you need 170cc/minute for every 300whp (15% mass) anything more than that and your wasting combustion space and $$$.
take advice from someone seeing good results...the answers aren't in order btw
the m5 nozzle works perfect, no need to downsize.
i run 100% meth with no problems at all and the pumps are the new shurflo 150psi pumps made to run meth anyway
i used a 1/8" NPT thread tap to my throttle spacer

2 Not sure on the nozzle but an M5 is what my setup has and was what the previuos owner used. I have yet to spray with it so...
3 The drill bit size is 11/32. This is the size listed on the 1/8NPT tap as it is the best size to start the tap into. I told you to look on the tap once before. I would have told you it was 11/32 drill bit then BUT I was not 100% sure and did not have the tap infront of me to verify.
4 I have been having trouble finding straight meth to mix with water. Right now I have just distilled water in it. I spose you could run tap water in it in a pinch but with all the other stuff in tap water I am sure distilled water would be better.

I just tapped the spacer on the oppsite side of the radiator so the nozzle is mounted on the side closeest to the head pointing towards the radiator. The hole is dead center on that side of the spacer. I no longer have the 90 degree elbow in the center just have the nozzle screwed into the side of the spacer.

What are you talking about where did i post my results? Look at my profile at my time slips and engine build. I have had nothing but good things happen with my build and meth injection. Half this site cannot get out of the mid-high 14's on the m45 but yet me, wade and some others are blowing them out of the water so i'd rather Mike hear what me and wade has to say than someone who has nothing to back up their thoughts on Mikes situation.
ive been talking to a couple guys at devilsown and where i bought my kit from, 300cc/min is too big for my application. i have the m62 with the stock pully pushing btwn 8 and 9 psi. devilsown has a program out that you put in a couple things and it comes up with an estimate of how many gph of fluid you need.
hard to say if the m5 is too big, might not be for you but for someone else it may be. when i put stuff in the calculator it figured i would need around 2.25gph which is near 150cc/min. order a smaller nozzle and test them both to see what works best. try the pump at 100psi on both then 150 psi on both. test and tune is probably the only way you will see which works best for ya.

^Thank you.....seriously I've posted before and I'l do it again.............seriously by combustion analysis older than all of us since WWI imperical data shows a mass of 15%(optimum) to 25%(MAX) gains the best results. 9 out of 10 people who instal a kit send 2x+ more water than they need too. IT IS 150cc/min per 300 HP, not WHP of water OPTIMAL, any more is a waste of combustion space and a waste of $$$ in mix. -flat out end of story.
JMdecals.....sorry, I re-read my post and I think I came off wrong, I really meant that as a joke really. Seriously tho, who can say "take advice from someone seeing good results" when I doubt you've spent hours on a dyno with different sized nozzles(I havn't done this either) or done the mass balance on paper(but I have done this).....thats really what I meant. You just came off like all knowing......when saying a M5 nozzle works perfect and is actually going to drop too much mix and waste money.
EDIT: The goal is to have the nozzle sized so that when the mix kicks on it starts at a point low in the RPM range and starts rich say 25% +/- (which is the max you wanna run) and as the RPM increases and the airflow increases so it leans out to 15%+/-. If the mix requirements demand the mix to be kicked on earlier(knock issues) or the RPM range is really long then a staged mix system would be required.
EDIT: I have 4 M1 nozzles, one on each intake runner + a 1 M2 nozzle post throttle-body. My system starts the M2 first, then kicks off the M2 and starts the 4xM1's, then kicks back on the M2 for a 3 stage M2-M4-M6 WI setup throughout the power band.

And I found my directions for the kit and it says to use an 11/32 drill bit and 1/8 tap which Im gona dod into my spacer today. Should work alot better than how its ghetto rigged into a coupler now lol. I didnt wana drill my eco eam cai when I knew Id be tapping a spacer soon.
I may go to a 2.5 pulley sometime, but idk..Someone needs to step up and make an oversize crank pulley

NPT threads are expanding threads. You will notice the tap get bigger at the top. All taps are tapered like this to make them easier to start in the hole but NPT taps are even more tapered. It will take some patience to start the 1/8NPT tap into the 11/32 hole. After you finish tapping the hole the top of the hole will actually be bigger than 11/32 because the tap reams the top edge of the hole bigger.

So you do have a devils own pump? I have a devils own pump and the only way I know of to control the psi is with the progressive controller in which case it does not have marks for the psi you want it to spray at just marks for what psi it should come on at, what psi it should be spraying full force at and then a gain knob. How do you change the psi? I don't recall seeing anything on the pump itself.

no i have the pump that comes in the aquastealth kit. i posted on alcohol-injection.com which is devilsown and asked a few questions.

Mike as for your ? about nozzle size I would highly reccomend going to the coolingmnist site and using their nozzle calculator. The nozzle you need depends on your pumps psi. Some brands use a 100psi pump but most use a 150psi pump. Also max rpm, max boost, and engine displacement are factors.
With coolingmist kits an M1=1.3gph M2=2.8gph M3=3.9gph M5=6gph
With Devils own kits the number after the M represents the number of gallons per hour it will flow. So an M1 nozzle flows 1gph and an M5 flows 5gph.
So as you can see you really should stick with the same brand PUMP, NOZZLE and use that brands nozzle calculator.
I just went to alcohol-injection.com since I am using a devils own kit and it said I need a 0.93gph nozzle. So an M1 nozzle for me. For those using the devils own kit here is a link to their calculator.

It really does not matter what nozzle so and so is running. There are too many factors involved to just say xx nozle works for me it will work for you. Good luck getiing this all ironed out by bash time...I myself am in the same boat.

Ok so what do you do when you bought a kit used and the guy you got it from has no clue what nozzle is in there, how do you find that out? lol

^all you gotta do is dyno the setup...rig it up and pump for 5minutes and measure how much water it sprayed, do the math to find out how much that would be in 1 hour......end of story.
Thanks for all the info everyone, I'll check out the coolingmist site and use their nozzle calculator. Im using a brand new coolingmist kit soo everything is all coolingmist parts.
I also just got my spacer drilled and tapped, spraying into the airflow not with it. It seems to be working a little better than how I cut a hole in my coupler and just "pushed" it in..lol. Gona be a very busy day tomorow getting everything ready for the bash!

I ALWAYS do this with every nozzle as it sure would be easy to mistake them, otherwise your just taking there word for it and assuming they got your order right. Now a-days you can't even trust MikeyD's to get the BigMAC in the bag.
