MP45 Idler Pulley
Tuesday, February 24, 2009 4:59 PM
I'm inquiring for someone who's buying my kit (since I'm having a little bigger supercharger put on within 2 weeks), and I'm keeping my idler pulley.

Is the GM idler pulley/bracket available for purchase still, anywhere? It could simply be custom fabricated, but I'd like to see if either anyone here is selling theirs, or if there's somewhere that exists that you can buy the actual parts.

As far as I know they were listed as discontinued and expensive on GMPartsDirect, but some dealers may have them.

Really all I need is the bracket, part number 12498289. I can find a pulley.

It's listed for $170ish on all GM parts sites... is there anywhere I could possibly get this cheaper?

MP45 is far too small for this engine.

I made some drawings, talked with a guy I know who fabricates things. Sent off an MP45 manifold with the main plenum and supercharger chopped off. He's making a plenum for it with the MP62 flange on it at the correct offset to line up with the serpentine belt, and with all of the necessary vacuum lines and bypass valve passage. Also a throttle body adapter. All for free.

MP62 on my LD9.

But, I need to also have fabricated this idler pulley system or buy the bracket for cheap... the guy who bought my current setup needs it and the deal was that I'd find/fabricate it for him since it's so expensive from GM. (And a PCV, but that can be made for free through my contact who fabricates).

Find me an idler pulley bracket!

It's being done through his school shop. I am using an MP45 hacked off manifold as the base manifold, not easy for this guy to directly copy and produce with limited equipment and tooling. Vulcan Turbo wants me to send them the finished product to him so he can make a jig and be able to produce it for everyone.

This would be awsome if there was a mp62 setup readily available for the 2.4. I'd love to get a bigger s/c if it wasn't so much work. Everyone keeps flaming me cause I went with a supercharger and not a turbo. Without doing some searching, am I correct to say that the mp62 is good for a little more than 10psi? Anyways, keep us posted. I'd be interested to see what comes out of this.

It's good for quite a bit of pressure, but the flow is most important. I'll likely keep it around 12-14 PSI.

I need an idler pulley bracket. I'll make an informational and graphic post when the MP62 setup is on and running. For now, I need to get this sorted out, lol.

Jay, did you save the one you took off? That'd come in real handy right about now!

Wondering if you had your car dynoed with the mp45? It would be interesting to see what gains are to be made with the mp62.

Yes I did, but under far from ideal conditions and equipment. It was not even worth mentioning what it was. Slightly higher than stock crank horsepower.

Well at least it gives you a starting point of what gains are gonna be made from the upgrade...I'm interested to see how much more hp you are gonna have...I'm not really concerned with peak numbers, more the gain than anything. I know my car is never gonna be the fastest but if I can make it faster than it was thats all I care about. Anyways, keep me posted. If this works out well this will be another upgrade for me this fall when I rebuild the engine. I was gonna get my mp45 ported and polished but if there is some progress in getting the mp62 to fit on the 2.4 I will definately be going that route.

So I've acquired the bracket. Anyone know a part number I could use for the pulley to get from AutoZone or the like?
