Intake manifold???
Tuesday, February 24, 2009 9:17 PM
For boosted applications how important is a plenum? I love the style of the old 2.3 tubular manifolds(look like a header) but N/A they dont flow much at all over 5600 rpm. How would this work with forced induction? would it still not flow well at high rpms or would the forced air compensate for this?

Dyno it and find out. I as know I would like to see dyno graphs showing the difference if it is even noticeable in the rpm range.

Yeah I guess ill have to do that and find out. I guess i am just curious how much manifold design plays a role in boosted applications. I see NA manifolds and Forced induction manifolds for the eco. I know for NA you want short fat runners for high rpm power and long narrow for low end torque, but boost changes everything since the engine no longer scavanges for air/fuel.

If anything you'll hurt power in my opinion. Boost is all about cramming as much air as possible, the tubular manifold has a lot less air volume.

i wouldnt use that thing on either.

Needing 2.3 oil pump stuff? PM me...

That intake has to flow so uneven NA let alone boosted. You want a plenum to equalize all the runners out. Plenum volume has a huge effect on spool time, power curve, and throttle response. Look around lots of good reading material on that subject.
