Which T3 compressor housings fit the 2200?
Friday, February 27, 2009 5:58 AM
I'm using an ebay T3 manifold and I have a .63 A/R compressor that will not fit the car. It hits the body near the top of the radiator. Short of cutting a piece out of that, I have to get a turbo with a smaller compressor. I can get a .48 compressor, will this fit?

Do you really know what you are talking about? Sounds like you need to do some better research, or design a different manifold....

Yeah, I do. I'm having a clearance problem using a T3/T4 hybrid with the manifold I have because the compressor housing hits the body. I'm not really equipped to "design" my own manifolds. I need a smaller turbo. I am asking what might fit.

Why go smaller when you can simply mod the rad support to fit it?

Looks like that piece is important for keeping the body stiff, or am I wrong? I'd have to take a big chunk out of it just to get it to fit, never mind if the engine rocks back and forth while driving. I'll probably have to mod it a little even if I do go smaller.

Based on your original post, I beg to differ.... As far as a "physical" size turbo that "may" fit better, a T3 Super 60 would be your best bet....

By "not fit the car", I was referring to clearance problems, which I stated in my second sentence. The turbine fits ok, but the compressor is too big on my hybrid. Is the compressor on the super 60 around the same diameter as the turbine?

I understand what you are asking, but still based on your original question (will a .48 fit better than a .63) , you really don't understand.... The super 60 is smaller in physical size. Here is a pic of my old one (not on an ebay manifold though) and there were no clearance issues at all... Here is also a pic to see the difference in "physical" size between the T3 and a T3/T4....

yes , its actually a precision sc31 . the difference with my log manifold and the ebay is the t3 flange is welded more at a downward angle instead of strait off the back if you know what i mean,

Reading this topic got me thinking. I purchased a turbo exhaust manifold from RDFabs in a group purchase here on the site and was planning on buying a T3/T4E 57 Trim with a .63 A/R. Does anybody know if there would be any fitment issues (like with what solid snake mentioned for instance) before I purchase one? I know he has an ebay manifold but I thought i'd post here and get some opinions on mine just to make sure. I never gave it much thought until just now because I didn't think it would be an issue.

I give up....... The hot side A/R has nothing to do with the compressor housing size.. It seems that nobody in this thread understands that. The reason it fits like sh!t is because the manifold is "EBAY" and "universal".... Most people who build these setups(the ebay/universal) do not do enough research or have enough common sense to realize or forsee fitment issues... Based on what I have seen with the RD product, it should not have these issues. RD seems to have a quality product. If I did not build all my own stuff, it would be the route I would go.. I guess the next topic will be , Where can I get a downpipe? or Why won't my downpipe fit?

That's relieving. I've been sitting here wondering where all these people were getting .63 compressor housings...
For anyone looking to turbo an LN2 and not building the engine internally, a straight T3 is all you need.

yeah i have a T3 Super 60 right now but i'm currently in the process of having a motor shop build my motor (passing Ryan's numbers up there ) and they told me that the T3 isn't going to cut it and I should go with a T3/T4 like the one I mentioned earlier because it would be perfect for everything that's being done to the motor so that's why I was asking.

The turbo that I had on when I was pushing 300whp(stock bottom end) was a T3/T4E .63 a/r with a Stage 3 wheel. My new setup will be somewhat different and will also be a fully built/forged bottom end....

when are you starting on the new setup or are you already in the process?

In the works as we speak.. MAchine shop work should be done soon, then I need to find time to finish it up. Parts have been my biggest delay. Still waiting on ARP....

good luck with the build man!! I think i'm still about 2-3 months away until the motor build is done but hopefully you'll have your build done sometime before me so that way i'll have a number to pursue.
