Since I have winter project almost completed I am starting to look into my next project. I'm looking into upgrading from the mp45 to the mp62 supercharger. I was on GM's website and it says that the kit for the 2.2 ecotec has been discontinued and I called a dealer in here in canada and they said there are none left in the country. This isn't a huge deal for me cause I am just looking for the supercharger and not the entire kit. I called Eaton to find out some more info if I could purchase the mp62 from them but there was no answer. I'm in the process of gathering charts and graphs cause the shop I was talking to said they would need to see both setups to know what they can do for me. They felt if it wasn't too difficult they would be able to fabricate me an intake manifold to accomodate the mp62 for my 2.4. So my question is, for anyone who has upgraded from the mp45 to the mp62 did you just buy the supercharger alone and where were you able to find it? I was thinking maybe some of you went to a junk yard and stripped one off a cobalt. Anyways, I could use anything at this point in time cause today is my first day off work to start doing some research on this topic. Any help would be apprecitated.
The M45 and M62 are NOTHING a like nor will it bolt right up to your motor......

Wicked...I just called the junk yard...all they could get me is the entire 2.0 ecotec and the s/c...not a bad price of 1500 though...I will take a peak around...I'm thinking it may be a better option to just fabricate the intake and then attach the s/c. That way I can sell my old setup. C2 are you making a new manifold or are u cutting off the s/c and using the one off the mp45 setup?

First off everyone and there brother says they are going to do this nukkinfutz and 97z24 and one other guy who hid his under the HO intake manifold are the only ones so far to do this.
Second I don't know why on earth you want to have a shop reinvent the wheel when Vulcan turbo has already started on this project. Also any shop that looks at it and says it looks easy would worry me. Knowing what I know now if a shop did not charge atleast a grand for it it would not be worth their time. All they need is somone besides just me to get serious and pony up some money. I have paid in full for mine and they have my supercharger and ecotec throttle body as well as a z24 in the shop to mock up on.

...its not the money that concerns me, cause all of my friends know how much I have put into my car. But I hope I don't seem like I'm trying to hurt your head cause thats not my intention. I'm just trying to see what is out there to get my next project underway. But anyways, I'm in the process of locating a mp62 right now...if I can get my cobaltss.net account to work. As for the shop, its in a small place in Nova Scotia, called Armstrongs. He is known all over canada and even in the states as well. Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if he did charge me a grand to do the manifold and I'd pay it if it would help others out who are looking at this route. But like you said, if vulcan turbo has started on this I'd be interested to see what I can do to get in on it. I'm still in the early stages of this project but I want to get a start on it, cause I have to start looking into my engine rebuild and need to know what my goals are so I know what to rebuild it with. I jut checked out that link you sent me, just read through the first few pages. So whats going on there now? Is vulcan still taking on this project? I know C2 is in the process of doing this and am looking forward to an update. So I'd love to be kept in the loop from either you Wade or C2. I'd be very interested in helping out as much as I can to ensure that something comes out of this project. Anyways, let me know if you hear anything, and I'll keep reading through the link you sent me.

He does not really have anyway to mass produce it so it would be of no help to you or me.

Wade's correct. I am not producing it for anyone else.
This is why I didn't want to mention anything until I have it on and running. There is NO question that I will have the setup it on my car, running, within 2 weeks. Before March 21, 2009, it will be running, I will have pictures, videos, and fuel tuning done.
It's not a difficult task to do... any place that fabricates custom headers can do this, if given the correct intake manifold flange. I'm not saying any more, I don't need questions. It will be done, and information will follow after that is completed. No speculation.

Same, I don't think it will ever be produced by Vulcan or anyone else as a mass-production part. Vulcan wanted to borrow my manifold and have tooling made to duplicate it and produce it, but I will likely not do that in order to ensure that this is completed quickly and runs on my car ASAP so I can get prepped for the track opening day.

So I am on page 9 of the thread that wade directed me to...I see that the manifold that vulcan is making appears to have no option for a FMIN or H/E but mentions on their website that a later one may be made?
Well the main reason for me to upgrade would be for cooling options and if there is no option for their current template I would not be interested in purchasing it. Anyways, I'd love to support it but if the design is no more than a larger version of the mp45, IMO its not worth the $1000 + dollars. I could get a nice port and polish on my mp45 for less. But if there is a second manifold made that can incorporate a IC or H/E than I would be up for supporting that. I would not be willing to support something I'm not interested in using personally. But if vulcan does offer a manifold that would use a cooling system, that would be something I would support. I'm gonna keep up with this topic and if something positive comes out of this than I will be willing to give it a try. In the mean time I will wait and see what happens with the projects that are going on now and make a decision of how I am gonna incorporate the mp62 in my setup. I would like to see a prototype or a mach up of the finished product before I'd really be interested in supporting it. Anyways, I hope something positive comes up for the LD9 crew looking for the mp62 upgrade.

I've heard that so much but thats what I don't want to do. I would rather have something different, and I think there would be some decent gains on the LD9 with the mp62. No one really knows the potential of the mp62 on the LD9 but I have a feeling there will be some substantial gains. I think this setup has the potential to be better than the eco with the mp62 IMO. I'm not planning on upgrading for a while, I was thinking in the fall but if parts come available this summer that are to my benefit I'll start collecting the parts for the project soon.
If I do decide to upgrade to the mp62 I'll have to adjust my engine setup cause I was planning on increasing my compression if I kept my mp45 setup but that wouldn't work with the larger mp62. I was thinking a 9:1 CR would be good for a mp62 setup? And maybe a 10:1 CR for the mp45? Thats what I'm thinking at this point in time. Hope something gets completed with vulcan cause I am very interested to see. Just seems there isn't a lot of support for innovative products for the j-body scene.
Fck porting and polishing your M45 it is a joke! The way the runners are they can't port it much and the polish is only an inch or so down the runner. So the majority of the runner is still rough cast. Trust me. I really don't think doing it gained me jack @!#$. Plus it would still not be anywhere near the gain going to an m62 would be. Push 8psi (if you can) out of the m45 and then do it with the M62 the m62 will produce a much lower IAT since the rotors are larger you don't have to spin it is fast to create the same amount of boost.
Vulcan is willing to do some sort of heat exchanger or something to combat heat if people want it. The garolite spacer they are making should be a huge help in reducing heat soak. On top of that I will be using meth injection wich is better for cooling than an intercooler or heat exchanger anyday.
As for the compression. Stock on the 2000-2002 z24 is 9.7:1. There is no need to go down to 9.1 compression for the m62. 10.1:1 would still be fine especially if running methanol injection.
I will try and give Vulcan a call today and see whats up.

You think running 10:1 CR with 15 psi will be ok? I think that would be pushing it a little. What does the cobalt ss come with stock? Thanks for the heads up about the the port and polish. Did you send yours to Stegmeier to get it done? How much did it cost. If worse comes to worse I'll probably end up porting and polishing the mp45. If this mp62 manifold ever gets completed then that may be the route I go. If it doesn't then I am stuck with the mp45 and I have to make that setup as good as it can be. I will be running methanol injection as well but having a intercooler or heat exchanger would be a bonus. The cooler the better. Anyways, let me know if you hear anything about the manifold.

I am 100% sure it will be fine granted your timing, AFR and IAT's are not way out of whack. Yes I sent mine to stiegemeier. It was 1000 for the port and polish and exterior polish. I think the price is 450 for just the port and polish.
This manifold is never going to get completed if people keep taking the I will wait and see attitude. You must have missed the point I have been making which is until they get some other people who are serious and will pony up the money it is not going anywhere.

Well if they are a buisness and they want to make some money they are going to have to take a chance. I don't know many companies that say "you buy our product and then you may get a product someday if more people pay for it". Doesn't make sense to me. If I want somebody to do something for my car, they do it and then give me the bill, I pay for the whole thing straight up, not the other way around. Anyways, that is just my opinion. If I see a prototype or pics of the progress and I like what I see I would be more interested. In the mean time, I'm not gonna for out money for something. I would rather pay 2000 for something that I can see before I pay for it to know what I am getting.
Anyways, thats enough of that.
Didn't realize the port and polish was that much, could probably get it done in Nova Scotia for less. I hope this manifold does get finished cause by the looks of things this is gonna be my next upgrade. I have to get some of my winter project paid of so in the next few months I would be able to more seriously look into buy it but right now this is on my list of "next things to do". I am excited to see the product cause I think the will be a wicked upgrade and feel that they will be able to sell a good number of them cause the mp62 is such a better supercharger. the stock ecotec that are running the gm s/c have 10.1 cr the cobalt ss are only 9.1 or 9.5 somthing like that, i'm pretty sure there are some ppl here with ecotecs that are running close to 15 psi with the stock cr.
Cool...well that would be pretty sweet if i could increase my compression and run the mp62...that would be a potent little 4 banger
I hope something comes out of the project cause I am getting really excited to see the finished product. Maybe a 12 sec pass may not be that unrealistic with the mp62 setup with a few goodies. Wade let me know when you are talking to vulcan.
