What's up folks I'm finalizing my 2.3/2.4 hybrid turbo setup and I'm wondering which cams would be better/more powerful with my turbo setup W41's or Ron's 224/224 - .430/.430's.I'll be using a 62-1 T4 turbo with Atomic's equal length turbo header, fmic, ported 086 head, HO intake, 75mm LS1 tb and a fully built 2.4 bottom end .
My car is a daily driver 2000 Z24 5spd that will see some drag racing on test and tune nights and I already have brand new from GM W41cams but I'm really considering getting the 224/.430's from Ron. Any reason I shouldn't?
I have some Crane .430/222 cams but have yet to run them with a turbo. I hope to be able to this year but funds have been slow to come in this year.
Ron Sibenick from over at quad4forums.com
I'm getting the same cames Dale!
What springs are you running with them? Please don't say stock HO's
Ok so it looks like noone has any objection's or reason's why I shouldn't run them so I guess I'll get them, Shifted thrice is correct Ron from quad4forums is the person I'm speaking of.
Thrice I have brand new HO springs but I may go with the DOHC 4.6 Mustang springs or I'll ask Ron for a reccomendation, by the way do you happen to have his email address handy, I forgot my q4forums password.

rseibenick@hotmail.com is his e-mail, while you're at it, ask him about the NHRA springs he has. Those are what i bought from him and they are set-up to take the .430's really well. They're the discontinued Rocketparts springs meant to rev to 8,000RPM....which is why i paired them up with my .224 .430
Where do you want your powerband?
.430" 224* have all the top end you want and no bottom end. The bottom end kicks in around 4500rpm. You'll need to rev to 7400-7600rpm to take full advantage of the cams. Say goodbye to vacuum at idle so the brake may seem funny at first. I had -10in of vacuum at idle with the .430 and -20 with the Ho cams.
I ran mine with the stock Ho springs.

2.3 Ho
Hey Gilles the car is my daily driver but it's a turbo hybrid with a fully built ( Eagle rods, Wiesco forged pistons, new race preped stock crank, ported 086 head, HO intake 2.3 oil pump swap etc) engine and a 62-1 Turbonetics turbo. Since the 2.4 has a longer stroke than the 2.3 maybe the bottom end loss won't be as bad and with the ported head, extruded HO intake, 75mm tb and the 224/.430 cams it should be a beast up top which will also help at the track since it won't just blow the tires off at launch but should pull like a freight train once it's moving.
Hey do any of you guys have sound clips of your engines idleing and revving with the 224 cams? I would love to hear what they sound like.
Dale, ask over at Q4F for the clips, there are a sh!t load more people with those cams from Ron.
I know that's right Thrice, I emailed Ron and I'm sending him the money for my cams on Monday, I asked about the NHRA springs but he hasn't replied yet.
Now I'm debating whether or not to sell my brand new GM W$! cams or hold onto them.
If ur gonna sell the cams i would be interested in buying them, how much would u be looking to get for them
if it can't win a race it better win a show
personally... since the highest straight up ld9 engine turboed whp numbers are 486 with JUST ho cams... i wouldn't think the hg2's would even be needed.
Needing 2.3 oil pump stuff? PM me...
I'm going HO cams but debating on a custom grind myself.
Rev to 8k anyone?
-Trailblazer SS - not so custom 6.0L - custom intake - custom tune
- (1) 2.4L on an engine stand (1) blown trans (2) good quad trans (1) eco trans = party

I doubt that the longer stroke of the 2.4 will be enough to cover the lack of bottom end of the .430. Don't get me wrong, I loved the .430 for city driving. It's just slow to get to 4500rpm.
I gotta dig in my files and see if I still have a sound clip of my HG2's with 12:1 compression.

There isnt a whole lot of power available below 4500 with .430/222 in a 2.4L. Feels and sounds very nice above 5000 though.
Thanks for all of the replies guys all of this info is most helpful and the reason topend cams will be great is where I live lots of Honda Civic Sis and Acura RSX type Rs and those cars can scream topside. And many people where I live refer to Cavaliers & Sunfires as slow girly cars and I intend to shut them up big time. As far as no bottom end until 4500 rpms do you think since I'm turboed that would help, because I'm sure my turbo will build boost before then?
1fast2point3 I would sell my cams for the same price I'm paying Ron which is $425 shipped in the lower 48, so let me know if you want them or not?
I think I'm one of the few that had 224* instead of 222* but

Want my set of .450/232-.430/232 cams?
With the longer stroke of a 2.4, standard W41 cams would make power past were they do on a 2.3.
I would try the W41 cams first, if you don't like them, your out 4 hours of work in swapping the cams out.

Well Ron over on q4forums has some blanks and he can get you W41 grinds or the HG2 grinds for $425 shipped. Since I'm getting the HG2's I will most likely sell my new in boxes GM W41s for the same price I'm paying for the HG 2s if anyone is interested pm me or email me at aero.coupe@hotmail.com.
425 will get you new GM W41 Spec cams.
