Flashing CEL
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 8:21 PM
At WOT today noticed my CEL was flashing, obv cant be good so I immediately stopped, any idea on what would cause that. It went off as soon as i let off. Maybe system way to lean?

Pull the code and find out. You might need something better than the loners at Advanced Auto because it will be in the "history".

Its a catalyst threatening situation. The most common reason is a missfire though.

ya its a misfire

mine does that every once in awhile when i am reallly pushing it
dont worry about it too much if it goes away that easy, when it continues to flash after you have let off then start to worry

A misfire is caused when the air/fuel mixture isn't burning when it's supposed to throwing off the motor a bit.

The most common fix is dirty plugs.
Pull your plugs, you can replace them or clean them with some brake parts cleaner and a wire brush if you want. Usually better to simply replace them.
Can you tell which cylinders the misfire is on? If it's on a pair of cylinders ex: 2 and 4, or 1 and 3, it's probably an ignition coil. If it's just one cylinder, it's either the spark plug or the fuel injector.

When did this start occurring?

Or your plug gap is too large.

My plugs are gaped .30 srt4 plugs, it happened once so far, and i think its on 1 because after my swap I was getting misfire on one and it was because of the injector circuit, so i had two harnesses for the injectors and i took the newer one and put my clips on them re soldered them all nice and it hasn't misfired since. Im not sure why it would randomly do that under full boost WOT whatever. I also had the thought of system to lean instead of misfire. Its one or the other.

id guess lean then if the gap is .030 (which is what im assuming you meant by .3 )

mine misfires sometimes at idle when it goes to 17.5-18 afr every now and then, doesnt happen too often though for me..

if you have a flashing CEL you are mis mireing and its going to be either a PO300,-random misfire or 301.302,303 or 304
