so i paln on rebuilding my motor for a turbo and i am looking for some advice. I was wondering if i should just replace my stock internals with forged pistons and h beams rods or should i be fine with just stock. I am getting mixed reviews about it so some advice would really help. I understan that there is a big price difference between the two. i plan on doing at least 5 pounds and maybe just going to 10 pounds.
There have been plenty of people running 5-10 psi on stock motors, myself included and Im at 98k miles. With a good tune and properly done pcv setup Id say the stock motor can handle around 300whp safely. I do plan to do a motor build, 2.3 oil pump swap is a must. I would rather have a built motor knowing that it can handle what I want.
Do a search, youll find everything you need.
Here's the thing if you are actually going to rebuild your current motor (meaning actually replace everything inside). Then you might as well upgrade to forged parts. Or get a junkyard motor with low mileage (cheaper), and put it in boost it do it right and be good to go.

Yep, using aftermarket performance parts can in many cases actually be cheaper than stock parts. Build it.

the only forged pistons i have came across are from wiseco and the rods are from eagle. for both of these it will be about 800 if anyone else knows where i can find other please help me with the websites.
if you only want to run 5 psi or so id say just go to er and buy a junkyard motor and slowly rebuild it when you have timeand money. then when its all done swap in the built one and turn the boost up to where you want it. thats what i am doing anyway.... either way your safe for a while on 5-7 psi.

so the plans have sorta changed i am completely redoing the entire motor. i plan on using eagle rods, weisco pistons9:1 good head bolts port and polish the head clevite bearings (rod and crank), felpro gaskets. the motor is still going to be turbo-ed with a customer header i plan on making from stainless steel. i plan on tuning it with 15psi and use the car as a fun/show car. any thoughts comments or additional parts you think i should get please let me know. this will be a steady build. i plan on dressing up the engine with polishing the head/cams painting a few other things.
if its not a rush job, keep your eyes open in the classified section and your local forum. I have barely bought anything from a shop but all parts are brand new. I have saved thousands and the motor is done. Get ready to spend at least $3-4000 for a full build though. You may want to make a full price list of everything you want vs. everything you need to know what you are getting in to.
yea thats what i figured for a price to do it right and not to cut corners. i plan on using tax return money for the complete motor build. and maybe some for the turbo. which all is great timing cause my car will be paid off so that will be extra income for the build plan is to have it all done by spring time
ive heard many people say they can do it on stock motors just fine if it is low boost. my friend had an 01 integra i think and put a pretty high hks turbo kit in it which cost more than my car and i dont think he changed his pistons or anything. the pistons were shot to you know where.

so you dont think i would need eagle rods for a turbo set up. my goal is to run 15 psi and this car is going to be driven once or twice a week.
If you are going to build it thenget rods and pistons.

if you want 15psi just build it especially if you want it to last... if your gunna try and save money now it'll just cost more in the future if you try and run it on a stock motor, cause if the stock motor blows your going to have to build one anyways.... also i have i fully built ecotec and i found it to be a lot cheaper to buy the entire rotating assembly together. the kit even came balanced... but i would recommend balancing it all together again just to be on the safe side. the kit i bought included the crank rods and pistons... but again its all up to you and what ever your willing to pay... i hoped that helped a little....

i believe its number 7 thats wut i am going with. i am also building a motor for boost, and they also offer the valves and h beam rods for a lil extra but as far as i have seen and researched u cant get better prices for every thing.

arp main studs
Things i still need to get are
felpro gaskest (all)
Arp head bolts (anyone know a site to buy these at)
Im thinking secret cams
ss valves (need a good place to buy these)
full port and polish head with valve job
good set of injectors
i am getting the rotating assem. balanced. anything else that anyone can thnk of please let me know any advice is helpful.
a little update on this i got the block dipped, deck milled the crank journals lines the cylinders horned. should be getting this all back by next weekend once the guy is finished with it. i have a question about the harmonic balancer. has anyone replaced these with an sfi rated one or is the stock one good. should i buy a new stock one. should i keep the ac or delete it. with a fully built motor how much psi do you think i can run with out blowing the motor to pieces.
