BOV Question
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 4:00 PM
Is it ok to mount a 1g Dsm bov upside down? I will be using the Td04 block off plate on my saab turbo and will need a different bov. I bought a 1g DSM bov and the flange, and was wondering if it is safe to mount it upside down first of all?
Secondly, is it beneficial to have it super close to the intake neck or would it be better to have it almost directly after the turbo? It would be easiest to weld it close to the intake neck on the throttle body.
Thanks

You can mount bov's anyway you want, its not like anythings gona fall out of them lol. As close to the tb is best, the faster it can react the less chance of compressor surge.

Closest to TB is the best.

And yes, you can mount them upside down

i run mine upside down. dsm bovs are pretty versetile.
you can remove it from the charge line and stick it in a vice. compress the top about a 1/4-1/2in into the body of the bov. this will make it accuate quicker and displace a tiny amount more air. also if you want to decrease boost lag after shifting, run a larger diameter inlet on the intake pipe(double the size) compared to the size of the one on the bov. as this will allow the bov to "dump" all the air at once into the intake pipe. instead of letting a short pressurized flow of air which will cause cfms to drop then spike, which happens with a same size tube and inlet. youll need a stepped recirculation tube as short as you can go. you can find stepped silicone, but i would make it out of mild steel or aluminum with the step as close to the bov as possible. id weld the intake side of the tube to the inlet and use a coupler to the bov. this will provide the least boost lag while shifting when using a recirculation setup.
if your dumping to the atmosphere, a small velocity stack on the outlet of the bov would control the air once it leaves the bovs chamber and distribute the air in a more uniform manner. along with amplifing the sound a little.

Does any one have a bov that sitting at idle and reving it up it doesnt go off? I just installed one on my car that my cousin gave me and at idle and reving it up it doesnt do anything. I just finished my turbo set up but there is a small oil leack from by the turbo so i havent had a chance to take it out and see if it goes off under boost.

^ bovs only accuate when the motor is under "load", it wont do anything unless pressure inside the charge line is greater than the atmosphereic pressure around it. free reving creates little to no pressure.

I see. I just thought it would go off even at idle like i see WRX's do. But i need to fix my oil problem before i can even take the car out for a test drive. Hopfully this weekend i can take care of that.
