im doing a saab turbo setup and was wondering what size exhaust should i use?????
2.5" or 3"
do whatever you want/can fit in the area you have, if your turbo has a 2.5" dp exhaust port go 2.5" then expand to 3" as soon after as you can
bigger the better,less back pressure=goood
Built&Boosted moar
04 Cavalier Turbo r.i.p my baby
2nd place 2009 GM tuner bash qwick 8--holla
i have 2.5" all the way back and am completely satasfied with it.
Dont take this the wrong way.. but your also running S\C times..
O\P
as stated above, Biger the better.

3" is pretty much more than enough for anything j body related, unless the turbo's outlet is bigger than 3" i would just got 3" as soon as possible

i know that, just reiterating for the o/p

dont take this the wrong way but i have a tune that needs a lot of cleaning up and will gain a lot from it. and dont take this wrong either but how much psi are the sc's running and getting these times?
How am I supposed to take that you need to tune better wrong?
I have no idea what PSI there running, As CFM>PSI.
my old LD9 was two tenths behind you at 9 lbs.... but that's a different engine with less CFM.
Jon's 12 sec eco SC car comes to mind.
all I'm saying is this, it may be "good enough", but are your trying to say it works as well as 3" would?

your already assuming... i dont need to tune better, i need to be tuned better. i dont know how to tune so i cant do it.
cfm vs psi, idk my cfm. but on 6.5psi thats what im running and thats what im pulling. and putting down 225/225 split.
and im trying to say that i have 2.5" and its working fine for me. did not say it was better. just said it was fine for me.
and are you talking about jon's fully built 8200 rpm redline motor that dyno'ed at the bash this year? not surprised he is faster...
its hard to even post with you because you get so argumentative and assume everything on what people are saying or doing,
Just because he is currently "running S/C times" doesn't mean that upgrading to 3" exhaust is going to make it that much faster, nor does it mean that his opinion is any less valid... lol what an ignorant comment.
The O/P is running the Saab setup, which leads me to believe he is not particularly looking for huge numbers anyway. 2.5" will be more than adequate and will be quieter than going up a size, but if you want to go with 3" weigh the extra cost into it, and decide whether you think it's actually necessary or not. There's absolutely no harm in doing 3" though so your call.
" To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous. "
wade jarvis ran the completely stock exhaust and put down 214whp. more than 90% of all the m45 cars out there.
3" is more than plenty.
Every time I scream "Release", I mean it, you know it. I feel the day. Black 7.
I have the borla exhaust...
I have run 12's with the cutout closed...
with the saab setup you cant fit larger than a 2.5" downpipe without using a custom manifold to relocate the turbo. It's a very tight fit for the 2.5" one that I make.
After the downpipe you could go 3" though.
I ran 2.5" from the turbo back with the saab setup. Running 6psi was able to hit a 13.8 1/4 mile. Full boost was hit by 2000rpm... you dont need it any lower than that lol.

Hey, if you guys want to run it, be my guest. all I am trying to say is this.
With exhaust, the bigger, the better. So IF your spending the money, why not get the best?
Custom tubes 3" is inexpensive when compared to others.

from my friend who owns a tuning shop... why does he lose power with a cutout open? wouldnt that be like running no exhaust which would be dont take it literally, "10000 in." exhaust...
and how much is a custom tubes inc 3" from downpipe back. assuming its stainless with stainless welds once you put it together and hang it and add a resonator and flex pipe, and muffler, and tip, and o2 bungs and flanges to take it apart in pieces?

um... thats a completely different platform and motor?
Every time I scream "Release", I mean it, you know it. I feel the day. Black 7.
2.5" is perfect for a saab setup,, Don't waste your money on anything bigger. Saab setup is 200-230 hp, if it was 300+ hp Then go with a 3"
z yaaaa wrote:um... thats a completely different platform and motor?
true but its a motor, with a cutout...
hence why i said dont take it literally...
and its been confirmed, im fine with 2.5" unless i want to go above 300...

all other things equal, the diameter of the exhaust will not really make it louder. It may make it a bit deeper actually. The choice of cat/catless, muffler and resonator(s) will determine the overall pitch and volume.
The biggest, straightest exhaust you can fit under there is what you want for a TURBOCHARGED build. The slight weight difference will be largely offset by the less restricted flow through the turbine.
did you guys miss where I said I have small borla exhaust and have run 12s...
I say don't waste your money...
you know how to drive my friend.
How much did it cost?
my 3" cost me 100 bucks, new.
..........
Guy didn't know WTF he had.. but hey, it worked out.
