2.4L supercharger @ 128k miles?
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 4:44 PM
So........

I've been haunted for years by the manual transmission thing. I currently own an 01 Z24 black with graphite interior and sunroof, and automatic. A lot of mods over the years too.

I recently bought a really nice car and the cavy is now my beater. I've been meaning to switch it up some and found on craigslist an 01 Z24 black with tan interior and sunroof, and manual. And only about an hour away from me, for a good price (KBB value). And I've wanted manual for a while now.

So I'm wondering what you guys think - do you think it would be wise to swap my supercharger to the 128k mi new cavy (if I buy it)? Or should I just keep it on the auto Z, which would later be sold off? I don't want to risk messing something up due to age. I'd swap over my interior pieces (graphite, leather seats, etc) and the audio system too. Not sure if I'd swap the NW/Daytona brakes.

Maybe it would be wise to keep the engine stock since it's over 125k miles?

i put the gm s/c on mine at 100,000 miles , as long as its a strong runner , you shouldnt have any issues , other than normal for a car with over 100k on it

personally id put the s/c on the auto , more fun and surprises more people

I put mine on at 173,000. Drove hard until 190,000 at which point I put in a built engine (the stock one was working just fine, just wanted to future-proof it). Never, ever had any problems.

The s/c is currently on my car (the auto). So not only would I have to swap over an assload of engine parts (which really isn't THAT bad), but somehow convincing the dealership to do my reflash on the manual, seeing as my auto VIN was already tied to my S/C (in the GM system).

And honestly, I have a V8 beast in the garage, so this is why I also think maybe I should just keep it reliable and sell the auto cavy with the s/c and try to get a few more bucks for it if I do end up buying the manual cavy......

I would put the charger on the manual car. Maybe even swap the motor from the auto car to the manual car since it has less miles (correct?). Selling the cavy with the charger is not going to get you anymore (unless a jbody person is buying it, and still not even then).

The manual car will be that much more fun to drive with the charger. Swap the brakes as well. Sell the auto as a stock car.

That sounds like a good bet if you're willing to put the work into swapping everything over.

Buy it & swap it over. I'm enjoying my new manual.

I swapped a 5 speed in at 78000 and an SC at 114000. Still stropng at 155000. Go ahead if you are just worried about the age/mileage. Pretty strong little motor there. My $.02.

Yea, I'm not sure what exactly I want to do. Swapping the whole engine over and getting the ECU reflashed in the manual wouldn't be a bad idea. At the same time, I don't know if it's worth it for me to do it. The cavy is technically a beater, so just keep the new manual as is (maybe put in a B&M short throw in there and swap over cosmetic stuff) and sell the auto with the supercharger, exhaust, brakes, etc. Maybe I'll get another $1000 for it than I normally would, and use that to my advantage.

I really don't need a "faster" cavalier, since it's my beater. The "fast" car is the other car in my garage. I just want a stickshift car so I can practice my rowing and have a little fun doing it, that's all.

You would be better off selling the charger seperatley and the brakes, making more than 1k and selling the auto cavy. Still who says a beater can't be fun?

Selling the charger and brakes separately is the hard part, especially when you need stock parts. There's a lot of little things here and there that yards don't have. And the more you gotta buy new/reman is the lot less money you gain from selling it in the first place. And to date, I've sold two things from my original for sale post in the SE forum, so at this point I'm through with trying to sell off parts. Lots of interest and talk, but when it comes down to it jbody people don't fork over the cash. Even if you sold it for $1.

Why do sellers think that the buyer has to accomodate them? Are they stupid?

The seller can only meet on Sunday afternoon, and is 1.5 hours away from me. That means I'd have to drive sunday afternoon and be back late sunday night, and my sunday afternoons/evenings are always busy/stressful trying to get ready for the work week. She can't meet on Saturday because she's busy looking for another car. She even asked if I wanted to meet during the week. Do you REALIZE I have to drive far as @!#$ to meet you, AFTER I get out of work, and then GO TO WORK the next day?

I'm the one with the money. You're the one who wants my money. Where do you get off thinking I have to work around YOU?

So, I won't be going to see this car this weekend. If she wants to sell me the car, she's going to have to come to me.

Truly if it was me I would be the same way as she is. You want it come see it. Must not want it bad enough.
