ok guys... I have a question that's not necessarily J related but for turbos in general. I'd rather ask here because I trust the know-how on JBO more than some of those Mazda guys. I just recently installed a Cobb SRI on my MS6. I can hardly believe the difference, it's the first mod I've ever done on a car where I can actually physically feel the difference. Cobb says it gives over 20hp (a few more mods and I'll be ready to join Ibroke300.com....so stoked)
Anyway, I have literally zero experience with boosted cars. After the install, I've noticed that I can not only here the stock blowoff really well (which is just plain cool) but I can hear the turbo itself spool (like a whistle amost) under acceleration pretty loudly. Is that normal, or could I possibly have a leak somewhere? The reason I ask is I've been in my share of WRX's etc, and I don't remember hearing it THAT prominently.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
Doesn't sound like you're doing/did anything wrong--just something to be expected when you un-muffle a turbo or blower. If you're feeling more power, it's safe to say you probably don't have any leaks (besides...it's on the intake side which is non-compressed air.
)
Enjoy the boost, my friend--it's like crack.
PS: I'll try to forgive the fact that you bought an intake from someone else before pricing
us out
haha thanks Chris. I did actually talk to Cody a while back about you guys possibly designing a turbo inlet pipe, I'll probably look into that more in the spring. The intake itself isn't actually metal, it's high temp silicone.

Lol...no problem, Brian. Just wanted ta bust yer balls a little
perfectly normal, the loud spooling you hear can be changed simply by different intakes. cai will be quieter than a short ram. stuff like that.
