So I know there was a post(by snowman?) about him getting the company that made the adapters for the gm kit to make some adapters for us.
But even with 10 people paying it would have been like 100 and some change right?
Well what I was wondering is what all of you guys that have piece together your own supercharger kit from a cobalt or redline, have done about the t/b adapter.
I know a couple of you have machined one out.
What about everybody else?
I know another option is to switch to an ls1 tb, which quite a few people have started doing.
My local buddy said he'd let me barrow his adapter(made by airtonics) so I can have another one made.
But since my car will only have an intercooled, mildly ported m62 + 3.0 pulley and a header back, will the 75mm ls1 t/b be overkill?
Let's hear some options.
The ls1 won't be overkill, the opening on the M62 is roughly 70-71mm on my blower, and the stock tb is 58mm iirc. The stock tb is a bottle neck holding back power that could easily be made. Think of it like this, is it easier for you to breath through a straw from mcdonalds, or a paper towel tube? Plus for the cost of a 62mm tb from a shop or vendor you can build your own adaptor and get the tb, pigtail, sensors for under $250 Granted I don't know how the gm reflash would react to the 75mm tb but for people who piece their own kits together they most likely will be getting a custom tune and this shouldn't be an issue.
This is how I feel on the subject... I'm sure others might have a different opinion but after seeing how Airtronics did his, I had no problem fabbing up my adapter for my car. The only issues I can think of besides the huge increase in airflow would be the battery getting in the way of intake piping/filter. I relocated mine to the trunk for the 3inch intake piping and an Ice box but I'm sure if the battery tray is moved like some of the turbo guys have them there would be little issue of making the piping go into the fender well.
I had a shop looking at making a 60mm to 68mm. The M62 is 68mm last I measured....
Snowman passed all the vender info to me, and I'm trying to get a GP together. I need 10 people, and the GM TB spacer will be $150 shipped......but they want ALL 100% of the money up front before they will even make ONE.
Most people have made or welded up adapters in the past or have had performance shops make them one.

i would think the m62 adapter for an l61 tb would be cheaper to make than an ls1 tb adapter. you would have to move the battery in order to get it to work. do you have an ls1 tb already w/ sensors?

I'd be willing to pay up front for the adapter, but only with paypal. I had mine made by a machine shop and the guy screwed it up. It was 90 degrees the wrong way, and I didnt realize that until i went to install it....
GP up soon....along with LD9 pulley GP.

i would think the 2.2 cobalts would need this as well?

the cobalt guys can use the lsj t/b
CLC wrote:the cobalt guys can use the lsj t/b
@!#$ it, its time just just run the balt t/b and wiring and gauges
i sure wouldnt mind being able to run their computers.

aren't some still cable driven tb's?

I think all are drive by wire.

cobalts are cable driven. Also a stock LSJ throttle body is 64mm so even if you have upgraded to a 62mm tb, like I have you, are still functioning below what the original "stock" set up from a cobalt. Give your S/C what it wants...a bigger TB
I have one for sale. lol

I am pretty sure the SS/SC Cobalts are not cable operated but I could be wrong. Im gonna direct Bill Hahn to this thread. I am sure he will be able to clarify.

Hey everyone!
Cobalts are all electronic throttle. There are several throttle body setups, depending on the engine series. To date, Cobalt has had five different engines. Here they are in general order of appearance:
L61 2.2
LSJ 2.0 supercharged
LE5 2.4
LAP 2.2
LNF 2.0 turbocharged

the LSJ is drive by wire, i know that for sure. looks like 2.2 cobalts are drive by wire too.

After some research it looks like all ecotec equipped Gm's are Drive-by-wire starting in late 2005- early 2006.

Guys, i got a nice M62 to LS1 TB adapter on ebay for 65 shipped. I was skeptical, but it's a nice piece - it's a simple plate style adapter that comes with mounting hardware and a nice transition on the ID from the LS1 diameter to the M62 diameter. Check it out -
EBAY. It may require some rounding off to fit right, but what the hell it's dirt cheap

The problem with that one is there is a very good chance that the stock eco throttle cable isnt long enough to work.

Is it me, or does it seem that the plate should have the cable on top and not underneath?

Of course I'll let you guys know how it goes. Worst case, i have to grind it down a little and grab and LD9 TB cable
Ok, Dumb As* question, Wouldn't you need to bump the injectors up when you step up the TB to say a 75-80mm?
I mean right now I have the S2 upgrade kit but my mind says those injectors still won't be enouhg for the larger TB or am I over thinking this?
BTW, CBM now wants $90 for that adapter, a little success has gone to their heads...(aka supply and demand!) LOL!
Bob
A larger tb wont make you move more air, because the blower only moves a fixed amount of air per revolution. But the larger tb will allow the air to be moved easier.

Whats with all the complaints about having to move the battery. Show of hands, who still has their battery under the hood with a supercharger? What like 2 people on the site. I tried my damnedest and couldnt pull it off with the smallest filter I could find. I have the room for the LS1 tb, and I want to hear if old school can make his fit before I put the effort in to milling one or the money into buying one.
Oh and to the op's question about what do people do without the adapter? You get an adapter like the one i got with my kti which looks like it was made with a drill press and a chisel. It looks like a ton of holes were just drilled where the big throttle hole goes and then the excess cut out with a cutoff wheel/dremel. Then the holes drilled and tapped. Heck the hole of the air isnt even round or as large as the throttle body. The things a mess and the car runs fine. It would make more power with a better adapter without a doubt.
