RD Fabs Ecotec header released. (Supercharged Application)

Well I had been thinking about this for myself back when I was doing everything for the sedan still, and I leaked a my thoughts to Tinkles about a first ever production 2" Primary ecotec header for cars needing that extra flow over the Pacesetter LSJ header which is only 1.75" primaries. I had bought the supercharger kit and wanted maximum flow possible. He wanted the second one made after I had done the testing, but that didn't work out in my favor so Kyle was still interested and so we moved forward for him still.

This is the first long tube 2" Primary Ecotec header to be made to our knowledge, and is available for custom orders right now till we can get the item onto our page. The entire header is all T304 Stainless steel that has tig/purge welded. We also offer the matching down pipe for an extra cost to complete the whole setup since the fit is extremely narrow between the heater core hoses and the a/c connectors it only can go one way. We will also offer this in a 1.5" primary for those not needing that extra diameter.

Disclaimer...

This header also requires a little bit of work to install, possibly less as we weren't able to get Tinkles PCM out of the way which may have helped tremendously. However, in order for us to get it to fit into Kyles car, we had to unbolt the upper motor mount, front transmission mount (5 speed) and let the motor drop roughly 3-4"s and then back the subframe bolts down ~2"s so the collector V-band flange would clear over the steering rack. Now mind you, one can always unbolt the steering rack and move it out of the way but we found it easier on our life to just drop the subframe down a couple inches. Then where they shift cables come through the firewall, there is a metal plate which sticks out 3/4" from the actual firewall we had to make flush with the rest of the firewall to allow clearance for the v-band clamp to fit. Doing this has no negative effects. But onto the pictures...

Ports:

Freshly wrapped:

We will also offer one in 1.5".

No we will not run a GP on these either, and no were not going to respond to someone complaining about the price. REMEMBER, every bit of this manifold is 100% T304 stainless even down the the exhaust manifold flange.

The headers will be $650 + Shipping. I am not sure about the downpipe cost yet, the one provided will not have the magnaflow pictured above. It will stop before that and the O2 bug for a wideband is also extra.

Questions, concerns, ordering information --> PM me or send me an E-mail.

Yep, too bad only 1 or 2 people are(J-bodies).

You forgot that it is a 3" collector Cody.

2" is a little big , 1 3/4 is fine , the area that needs to be addressed is the length of the primarys and down pipe size

not to mention the 1 3/4" tube is really close to the upper bolt holes , enough so pacesetter includes bolts to replace the studs and washer style lock nuts , just think how bad a that extra 1/8" is gonna be

other wise nice looking piece

Looks nice. Is it meant for a cobalt application as well?

At what point do you need to open up the exhaust ports? I'm pretty sure 2" is way larger than the exhaust port. Should we be port matching at this point?

2" is definitely a big primary and we did it to open up the window for big horsepower numbers and not have the header be a restriction. Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with the primary length and DP size?

In regards to actually mounting this to the head, we had no issues, but we can absolutely include SS hardware to replace the studs if a customer requests it.

The Eco's ports are absolutely smaller than this header, so there's absolutely "room to move" when it comes to the head. The thing here is that it gives the customer that option, rather than having the flange serve as a restriction if they did go bigger on the ports at some point.

the primarys really need to be longer , no one said what this down pipe size is , but that i was refering to the most headers out there for the J's like the pacesetter being 2 1/4" , its fine at the stock boost level , but for bigger power really needs to be 2 1/2 or 3"

ive got wheel2wheels header and they used 1 5/8" primarys with a little more length than what i can see in your pics with a 3" collector and 3" exhaust on the cav sedan that made 262hp , which i happen to have that motor and exhaust as well

i really would like to see a 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" , or 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" stepped header , it would help out alot more with the low speed velocity , and still keep the high peak hp #'s , and primary length in the 20 to 30" range

Thanks for the input. Our collector is actually 3" in size and we're fully capable of producing a 3" exhaust to match it. We could play around with primary size and length upon request, but for all intensive purposes, this should prove to be a great header for almost every application.

Eric - Those are what lead to our design. I wanted a 2" primary the same length as those race2race headers. But further talking to ryan about reproduction and offering them to the public, we didn't feel like they would sell with the amount of work required for install. The customer would have to completely drop the engine subframe to gain enough clearance to pass this back behind the engine. I don't feel like the photos show how massive this thing really turned out to be, and also there is like cunt hairs for clearance back between the a/c hard lines and the heater core hoses. Ryan was able to make the header without a j-body in the shop for test fitment and nailed the perfect location between those 2 obstacles. On top of that, if you try going in from the bottom the shift cables on the 5 speed don't allow the header to pass up from under neath the car, and not many of the prospective customers have access to a lift to even attempt going from the bottom.

With all those factors hindering install, this unfortunately is the longest we could go with attempts of trying to sell a couple. Could we make them longer? Absolutely but the customer is going to have a lot on their plate install wise and I only know a handful of people up for the work required. I know you would be one of them up for the challenge.

the sub frame isnt that hard to drop , 6 bolts , hold it in , the lower mount will need to be undone , and the steering knuckle , or undoing the 2 mount bolts for the rack , couple clips

think when i did the front sway bar it took about 30 minutes to drop the subframe

is the down pipe you guys made full 3" ? what about the flex joint ?

let us know when its on the car and how it feels , and dyno's if possible

The header was on my car before this post was made.

The down pipe is full 3" to a full 3" exhaust. There is no flex joint because im running full poly mounts(RKSport engine mounts and TTR tranny mounts).

The car does feel healthier in the higher RPMs and does not have any noticeable loss in the lower RPMs. I am wanting to get to a dyno before any more mods are done.

Yea we didn't have an issue of doing this, but we also have a lift and makes doing that extremely easy. But if your trying to sell a product you gotta make it so others can do the install themselves and without a lift. We actually dropped Tinkles sub frame roughly 2" to get the lip on the v-band to clear the damn steering rack. If there is a demand for longer primaries we'll more then accomodate their request if they understand they'll have to do quite a bit of work to get it in.

I can't wait for dyno numbers as well.

I'd personally like before and after dyno #'s.

Us too...

But there isn't too many people ever wanting to step up to the plate and come visit us. Kyle fortunately lives only 2.5hrs away from me and I let him crash at my place so a 2 day stay was no big hassle.

Joe if your willing we might be able to work out some kind of deal on the cost or something if you wanted to get some before dyno numbers and then after ones...

Never even thought about it, but honestly this brilliant idea may interest my tuner as he was in charge of this with Denew's car.

Another minor critique turned into an attack by a .org member.

I'd like to see this thread stay away from a pissing match.

How so? I'm curious as to why you feel that and so would the owner of the shop who does all the welding. We always welcome critique.
