Im looking into an Option B type tank for my M62 L61. What are you guys using?
The LSJ Option B interests me, but im unsure of how/where to mount it.
Thoughts?

If you look on cobaltss.net I believe the guys sn was stugots but he did a write up on it how he got everything from a parts store a lot of local balts here in houston are running this set-up. The reason I mention it is its a bit more compact then the actual option b.
I cant believe you guys actually think this tank does anything

Yeah I thin it is a waste myself, but I'm not a expert so I would not know.

It does do more than the stock LSJ fill tube. You can at least put ice in this tank.

it is also way easier to get air out of the system than the fill tube too.

and putting ice in it isnt gonna help either.
if anything these tanks are not only taking up space, but adding extra weight to the car...with little if no benefit

Care to explain how colder fluid will not help?

colder fluid Would help...but that tank does not make the fluid colder.
does your engines coolant tank help keep your engine cooler? would your engine run at ANY different temperature without that tank?
I have a stock cobra intercooler tank.
i dont think the few extra pounds of an option B tank is really going to make a difference..

If it didn't make a difference why do they even have the option to run a H/E on the intake manifold? The few pounds you add won't kill ya, if you get that worried about added weight most of us most likey could shed some weight our selves and make up the differnce
I've got plenty of room under hood anyway with the battery in the trunk and I'm going to be running Aitronic's ice box and a bigger H/E come spring with a dual pass.

it's merely there to add more fluid to the cycle so it's not cycling thru the warmer fluid of what's just in the h/e and cores. granted it's not much more fluid. could help w/ corner weighting of the car.

YOU sir fail at reading. i never said the HE didnt do anything. the HE obviously is a NEEDED part in boosted application. the dual pass is also a good thing. and i also agree that the weight of the tank isnt going to make any "noticable" difference . The point is the option B (fluid tank) makes no difference either
agreed with scott. if you think about it, we could all go add ice to our coolant tanks for our cars and it would not do much except increase the fluid amount in the system and overflow. now if we ran two radiators then you would have the air moving through both radiators and through the fins and over the bars and cooling better than having more fluid.

I'll agree with you on that, but I interprited it differently when I first read your comment. And I'll agree that the option B is a waste for the cost....when if you were to spend a day at the pull a part you could find a res tank from another vehical for cheap and an increase in holding capacity as well.

I disagree with you on this one. Ice helps in pulling the heat out of the fluid to get a cooler air temp going into the engine. Thats why people running water to air heat exchangers load up their "ice boxes" or what ever you want to call the tank when at the track. Granted it's not going to last long and won't be usable in a DD situation, but it does help.

Why did you post that ice won't help but if you could get cooler fluid that it would? I understand that the tank itself won't lowwer intake temps but if the tank has a higher capacity you then have room to add ice and and help get cooler fluid when you want to do so.
first of all i believe most people will agree with me,that no matter how much ice you put in it its not going to last long...minutes at best..
and maybe in perfect world where you didnt have to wait in lines for staging lanes that ice MIGHT last long enough for you to get a run in.
personally i like to deal in REAL changes that make permanent differences. i mean, are you seriously going to carry ice around with you everywhere ?? if i was at the track and asked a guy to race me and he said he had to fill his tank with ice first , i think i would just laugh and say nevermind lol
theirs a reason its called option b. that is because optional add on overflow tank does not have the same ring to it. what does it do? it gives you a visual indication if your fluid is low. this will help you find a leak. and it allows you to vent air when you add something like an he or new pump something like that. the fluid in the tank does not cycle through the system unless something is wrong. the added ice could cool throu convection only.
horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, Torque is how far you push the wall with you

now all those things i can believe and will agree with.

I'll agree that ice won't last long, hence why I stated it wouldn't work well in a DD situation. But have you personally tried it to see roughly how long it will last?....maybe 1-3 runs depending on the day and how busy the track is, I won't know for sure but i intend to find out. I don't know how the track is by you but one of our local tracks can be very slow at times and you could hot lap very easily. I plan on running a switch to turn the pump off when I'm done with the run and idleing around the track back to the staging lanes.
When I go to the track will I bring ice?.....actually yeah I will, I normally bring a big cooler, a mini webber, and food. since i normally bbq at the track every time I go and kill the whole day there with friends, so I will have plenty of Ice to put back into the box instead of throwing it out on the grass and draining the cooler before heading home for the day. I normally don't hotlap more than once or twice when I can anyway due to heatsoak anyway so longevity of the ice is no big deal to me.
Anything you can do to lowwer intake temp is going to help any car at the track and you know that. You can deal with your "permanent" changes but for just messing around at the track with my DAILY DRIVER with friends and trying to get a personal best in the cav I have no issue with putting some ice in a tank even if it lasts 1-3 runs. I had no issues changing out my nitrous tank on my red cav or the 383 s-10 we built so I don't think adding ice every once in a while will kill me. To each their own I guess.......
