I want to run the m45 kit in my 96 z24 cavalier 5 speed and i understand that hptuners cant be used with the 96 computer but i have 2 z24s sitting in my yard as part cars. One is a 98 with a 5 speed and the other is a 2000 auto. I wanted to take the 2000 computer and harness and put it in my 96 but was not sure on the difficulty behind that. the motor in my car now has been rebuilt its a 98 motor and i put wiseco 10.1 compression pistons, eagle rods, and it has about 5k on it now. new to this forum and tuning but really want to do the upgrade please share your advise could really use the help

thanks

Thank the Lord for the 2.4

You pretty much got to strip the car to swap the harness. You copuld use the 2000 auto and just reflash it, but again you need a tuner to turn off some things for the auto trans thats not there.

Or get crazy with a FMU.

How much difference is there between the 2000 and the 96 computers? Will the 2000, wire wise, hook right into the the 96 slots or is there a big difference because from what i understand the 98 computer is the same as the 96 but is able to be tuned.

Thank the Lord for the 2.4

SOME 96s had the same plug design as 97 n 98 but most were the 95 design...it was a transitional thing. To use the 2000 ecu you will need to swap all the wiring and the guages and until you buy hptuners you will have codes because your ecu will be looking for an auto. To use the 98 you can check and see if it has the 97/98 style plug or swap the entire engine harness and ecu and it will plug and play with the rest of the car.
