Water Injection? Old timer trick or myth?
Sunday, December 13, 2009 3:47 AM
A lil help here my grandpa died when I was alot younger. I remember him talking about injecting water into a engine in small proportions. He said it created more horsepower than nitrus could ever dream of. I want to settle this myth and if it's true how would I go about doing it.

It makes sense when your loosing a head gasket and you get coolant in the engine, it creates more hp from the steam and then destroys piston and anything else it can blow threw.

Idk solve the myth boys.

Well not quite the result I figured I would get, I want views and opinions on it, That's what I'm looking for, and if it really works, coming from someone who tried it or knows about it.

I am running meth injection. yes not water. Water helps bring the temps down. It does not add power, but more power can be made if tuned propertly. Usually used in supercharger and even turbo applications to bring down the incoming air temps. It is not going to be a boost in power like hitting a nitrous button.

^100% agree....even if he isn't an expert per Bill Hahn Jr.

To sum it up.....without tuning...it is useless. Whether you spray water or meth, you need to be able to modify your spark tables to get the true advantage of it to the wheels. Without tuning, all it can do is pretty much make damn sure you wont get knock on your stock setup. So to be fair, the concept of water/meth injection doesn't give you anything, but it does 'give you the ability' to tune the motor with more advance built into the spark tables.....where the timing is what would end up giving you the power.

One could argue with my statement by saying it reduces IAT, ect. Yes, it does do this, and this will be a 'gain'....but not enough by itself to warrant the expense of the system or the spray. Before you bother thinking about implementing a mix spray injection system you need to have the ability to tune it in hand, ready to go, before you bother to install it. In this situation they go hand-in-hand.

reviews and opinions on what?

water injection doesn't add power the same way nitrous does, its used in conjunction with boosted engines in order to fight intake temperatures (which allows you to make more power).

if you took 3 seconds to look it up via google, you'd have read this. there's no myth about it, it works.
