Just as the topic says Why is my wastegate opening to soon?? My watsegate never use to open till right around 5800rpms and now it opens up right before 5000rpms(maybe 4800rpm's). Any one know what could be making this happen? I have a 35/38mm watsegate with a T04 Garret/AiReserch turbo and a log style turbo manifold.
........
Your hiting WG PSI boost earler?
if the boost psi is the same, I would think this a good thing...

Sorry should have put i have a 6psi wastegate spring and the wastegate opens at barley 5 psi at 4800rpms
and where is the gate's refance from ?

maybe spring lost some pressure or you may have a leak

What do you mean by where is the wastegates refance from??? If im correct with what i think you are talking about my watsegate is placed on the far left Pasenger side) of the manifold.

Ypu know what when i think about it i might have a leak cuz when i tightned the screws down i was having problems gettimng at one of the screew cuz it was sooo close to that manifold and i couldnt crank it down tight. Ill have to check that out and see if that was the problem. Sucks my car it put away for the winter.

Chris means "reference signal" not spacial reference. As in, are you taking the vaccum hose signal from the intake manifold, hot side of the charge pipes, etc.?
I have no signiture
I have the vaccum coming off of the Intake Manifold for the wastegate. Its also sharing that T fitting with the boost gauge as well. Is that bad?
It shouldn't be.

Spelling owns me... yet again.
OK.
SO know that we know this.
TIME FOR A BOOST LEAK TEST.

Is it better to run the vaccum line for the blow off valve to the intake manifold or to one of the ports on the T/B?
Depends on which port you are talking about. Pre or post Butterfly? Your BOV should run off of manifold vacuum. So if you hook it to a post tb butterfly port, it will work the way the manufacture had intended. If you hook it the the pre tb port it wont work correctly, cause the only time it will see vac will be when the throttle is open, and that should be boost if everything is working correctly.
if youre getting a boost signal from AFTER the length of the charge pipe AND after the intercooler there will be a psi drop... pull a signal from the turbo and you'll know exact numbers

I believe you're thinking about it backwards...or misunderstanding what he said. If you're pressure gauge is reading from the same spot your wastegate references from, the gate will limit to that pressure. So if the boost gauge AND WG reference are taken from the manifold, you should see roughly the pressure that the WG spring is rated at. If he moves the reference signal for the WG to the hot side of the charge pipes (i.e turbo) and his boost gauge is reading from the manifold, then you would certainly see the pressure drop across the charge pipes and intercooler.
I have no signiture
the best place to obtain boost reference is from the intake manifold. the time it takes the boost(pressure) to go from the intake manifold to the turbo can create a boost spike. example: if the manifold has 10 psi boost, the turbo compressor side may only have 8 psi boost so if your using a boost reference signal at the turbo compressor housing the wastegate is going to open late causing a boost spike that can destroy your engine.
as far as a boost leak causing your wastegate to open early i dont think that possible as if there was a boost leak the wasgate wouldnt open at all or open later creating more boost.
I havent had a chance to look at where it could be coming from but a few days ago i took it out and it fully boosted at 6psi when it was some what cold but as soon as it was fully warmed up thats when it started opening to soon. I adjusted my bov and the problems with this started not to long after. Could i have it to loose and causeing the problems? It was to tight thast why i loosened it up.
thats gotta be your problem. boost is pushing open your bov because its incorrectly set. adjust it to were the bov doesnt open at idle vacuum.
Well yesterday i readjusted my BOV and they didnt fix anything. Any other ideals of what it could be?
weak spring or boost spike?
have you changed any exhaust to larger dia. or replaced reg cat with highflow lately.
pete toures wrote:have you changed any exhaust to larger dia. or replaced reg cat with highflow lately.
I need to update my registry but yes i have a 3" exhaust set up with out cats on it but 2 mufflers. Weak spring as in the BOV? That could be. I have a cheap knock off greddy type s sitting around i could use and see if that works
