Just wondering what numbers and times people are getting with this turbo... I was going to get a t3/t4 57 trim .63ar but due to the current turbo having blown its seals, i am forced to get a super 60. Mainly because I dont have the time and money to build an engine for the t3/t4 hybrid and the super 60 is a direct replacement for my current setup.
So yeah, just wanting to know how you guys like it... Shooting for 300+ HP. I know the super 60 cant hit that, but later on with the hybrid I will.
Man, I ramble a lot...
"You can only feed them semen for so long before their legs fall off."
Well im running the t3/t4 57 trim with .63 a/r and aiming for 400. when i had my stock motor in, i had it set to 13psi and i bet i was hitting 300hp. So I dont see a problem with you going with it and hitting 300+ I know mine has plenty more in it and they rate it to 450hp.
Problem is that I dont have HP tuners to tune it for that much air and only have 36lb injectors. But that's cool that you hit that on a stock engine. No problems at all??
If I get the t3/t4, it should be ok with a lower boost setting, say 6-8?
"You can only feed them semen for so long before their legs fall off."
what are you going to be using to tune it? you gotta tune for the turbo and the car itself. idk if i would trust the gm reflash if thats what you were doing.
i think 36lb injectors are going to be borderline small. i mean i maxed out my 42# injectors at 14psi. but i was running my car for almost a year at 8 psi. you could tell that once i put the turbo in the 10-13psi range it was much more happy and in its efficiency range. you will be ok at low psi but depends on what you are looking for on the performance of the car.
id advise saving for the hpt or finding a shop to tune it. will be more efficient and more worth it.
as for my car. no issues at all. 106K miles, id say almost 40-50K of that HARD boosted miles. ran like a champ. and i still have that motor sitting out on the engine stand just to keep in case something happens.
I'm even considering going with the 50 trim as well... Not a whole lot smaller, but still smaller.

I think a t3 super 60 is a good choice for the dd, it has similar output to the mitsubishi super 15g..... "Max airflow is about 300-325 HP." from Bill hahn.
I know i going with one of these two when i go turbo since my motor is going to be stock and i wanna be able to take advantage of a turbo thats most efficient at low boost !

50 trim might be quite a bit better. Thats gonna be pretty nice one to use. just make sure the fuel is there. and did you say how you were going to end up tuning it then?
I started off running a turbonetics t3 super 60 which was awesome, 7psi and open dp...I loved it lol. That one died from compressor surge from a not properly adjusted bov. Now Im running a garrett t3 super 60 from a buick grand national that I spent $50 on from some junkyard store on ebay. Swapped out the strange exhaust housing for a .63ar ford housing, and works great everday at 10psi for about a year now. Best $50 I ever spent.
Ill be changing to a new mani/dp setup soon, and am gona continue to use this turbo just swap the turbine housing to a 4-bolt outlet.
Still deciding on the tune. Got Ecotec-tuning here in the valley and also Dynocomp. Dynocomp would be a little pricey but it would also be a grade A tune. I was looking at those Siemiens 60lb injectors awhile back. I think you actually talked to me about them and such. Would give some nice breathing room for when upping the boost level.

yeah. your tune will be the most important part to consider the psi you choose. how much is the new turbo vs rebuilding the one you have? if you already have the t3/t4, then it might work out to rebuild that one. I really dont think its too big for a stock motor, hell i ran it for 2 years on a stock motor.
i dont have a t3/t4 currently. Its a t3 but the model # is unkown. Extremely small. like .42ar.... It's hit 13's on the 1/4 mile before though. I was going to rebuild it but since we dont know what model it is we cant figure out what type of seal it uses. PLUS, im ready for a upgrade anyways.
Planning on buying another block and doing a .020" overbore on it and run 8.9:1 pistons. So i'm probably going to get the 50 trim so I can hit my magic 300hp mark and i can transfer that turbo over to the built motor and get some more in the future.

Welp, I changed my mind again. Found a t3/t4e .58a/r 45 trim for only $600 so i'm gonna slap that sucker on there. Can get me close to my 300HP mark and still have good low end response. Doesnt look like anyone here is running one either....maybe ill be the first

not a bad turbo....any pics??? my only heed of caution is once you boost the car you will wanna make more than 300hp i can pretty much guarantee and for the price you bought that turbo you could of for like a 100 more got the same turbo as mine thats good up to 550HP
not exactly the same as mine but you get the idea

good luck with the build thou and look forward to #s
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
Yeah, I was looking at the t3/t4e 50 and 57 trim but I dont have the time to build the motor up right now. Basically my current turbo is dying (oil leaking) and I need a similar replacement asap. This one is still reasonably larger than my current setup, but it will still accomodate.
This turbo does have an interesting oil inlet though... Most garretts i've seen have the 1/8" inlet feed. This one needs a separate flange to be bolted on to make it 1/8".
Here's the link to the website and turbo:

My goal is only 300 so im hoping to hit that with this one.

If your talking about the turbo in the picture that is oil and water cooled, not sure if your thinking that large open port shown is an oil passage.
For a good 275-325whp Id go with a t04e 57 trim. If your buying brand new they usualy go right around $600 and used around $300 or soo. Many people on here have run similar on stock and built motors with good results.
Yeah, its an oil passage. They make a flange for it. You can see the two bolt holes on each side of the port. Would be strange to oil/water cool that small of a turbo. I would go with the 57 or 50 trim but like I stated, funds dont allow. Cause remember, need to add fuel for that much air. Im only running 36lb injectors at the moment. Upgrading to 44lb or 60lb once funds allow.
Also, its fine to use oil instead of water, right? Read that people say it just increases the lifespan of the turbo to use water cooling instead of oil.

"You can only feed them semen for so long before their legs fall off."
Most oil inlets have 2 bolt holes to bolt of a feed flange, this is common as not all oil feed inlet holes are threaded. Im using a 4an feed flange with built in restrictor, better than having multiple fittings together. I wouldnt worry about water cooling it unless it was bb.
A few things I recommend doing when you swap out the turbo is a new set of plugs cause when you change turbo sizes youll most likely foul a plug unless you change your tune. Also make sure to prime the oil system to get some oil flowing through the turbo before running it.
Oh dont worry, I know what im doing and such (not trying to sound like an ass). Im hoping to be ordering a set of NGK's here pretty soon. Thinking of getting 1 step colder

Jesus guys, if you're looking at $500-$700 JOURNAL bearing turbos, take a gander at Borg Warner turbos. Waaaay more efficient then any Garrett journal bearing turbo.
Borg Warner S200

Smaller housings are available through Bullseye Power. I bought my S200 from this same business, reliable seller. The compressor wheel has Extended Tips.
Bullseye Powers only available Turbine Housing for this turbo though, is a .55 A/R T3 which is still good for roughly 300whp.
Eh...dont think ill buy a turbo from ebay....
"You can only feed them semen for so long before their legs fall off."
I buy prolly 90% of my parts from ebay, including both my garrett turbos and my turbonetics. The stores on there are alot of times the cheapest prices I find on alot of new items.
Its not like the turbo he linked was some chinese junk
Senorguitar wrote:Eh...dont think ill buy a turbo from ebay....
There's a difference between buying a turbo off of ebay, and buying an ebay turbo.
The latter being a bad choice.
Borg Warner turbos are used more commonly by VW, Caterpillar, John Deere (yes, you read that right) and even the Cobalt SS/TC.
Since you consider ebay a bad first site of refference, here.
AGPturbo.com
Still way out of my price range. Could get a garrett ball bearing for that much. Trying to stick to a small-mid range sized turbo for the time being. They do have great efficiency maps though!

huh? he linked you to a turbo for 300 and was just showing that they were 1k quality on another site.
