Possible Ecotec PCV fix
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 8:13 PM
This topic was talked about on ecotecforum.com, so I thought I would share what I did on my car and get others opinions.

I did this last year to my stock Intake

1) drill a hole (so brake line fits fairly snug) from the back side of the intake in the location of the pcv hole so it exits out the front side

2) cut and bend a small piece of brake line and epoxy it into place let dry

3) drill hole according to tap chart for 1/8npt. Tap and install plastic 90 barb fitting

4) run your hose and install check valve. I used a stock one from a saab 9-3

I did notice the same symptoms as the other people drilling the valve cover. Engine seems my responsive and revs quicker.

I also just picked up a genuine gm vented oil cap for the ecotec. It is the same design that is on the saab.

For anyone wanting to pick one up the part # is 12589430

If it had been me I dont think I would have tapped into the manifold, but the intake side of the turbo.

ya, why didnt you just route your PCV system thru the intake tube instead of risking damage and possible explosion to your intake manifold? Cheaper and quicker IMO

damage and/or explosion to my intake?? How so?? I think you guys are under estimating the plastic intake.

I see what you guys are saying about into the intake side of the turbo. This is the same design that the saab 9-3 is running, also that plastic manifold is going to handle more then what I am going to put to it.

Just thought I would post what I did, and yes it did fix the problem that us with ecos were having.

that small hole in the intake is seeing boost which then is forcing air into your crankcase creating unwanted pressure

Wasn't there a thread about someone using a different gasket to take care of that hole??? Have to find it....

I have seen Ecotec manifold come apart on boost, not a regular thing but can happen.

I also have not seen a DOHC Jbody motor with a non vented oil cap. They all have them stock.
